The Borgias -- Season 3 Thread -- Sundays (Showtime)

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Season 3 premieres tonight. Since there isn't really a whole lot of interest in this forum, this will get relegated to a season thread.

"The Face of Death"

In the Season 3 premiere, the poisoned Pope Alexander fights for his life and the cardinals jockey to take over the papacy, while Cesare and Micheletto try to track the assassin. Meanwhile, Della Rovere readies to make his move; and Catherina Sforza dispatches her own personal assassin to unseat the Borgias.

10 episodes once again for the 3rd season.

Please by all means don't hold back on the commentary.

Episode 2 of 10 is tonight

"The Purge"

Pope Alexander seeks revenge against the cardinals who moved against him; and Catherina Sforza orders Rufio to rally support from the mercenary warlords of the Romagna families. Meanwhile, Lucrezia becomes annoyed with her future in-laws.

Re: The Borgias -- Season 3 Thread -- Sundays (Showtime)

Just watched ep2 last night. For me this show has pretty much run its course. I still love the settings, costumes, and the acting, but it feels like same old story every show. Corrupted Pope does something corrupted, people don't like him and want to kill him, he gets mad, screws a whore, sends his son to kill people, because heck, who'd dare to kill him? End of episode.

If this keeps up this season, Cesare and his bodyguard will have killed half the Vatican

I know this isn't how he died in real life, but the ending by poison would have been a nice one for the show and focus on the political battle between Della Rovere and his son. At least now thy are hinting the incest between the son and Lucrezia, and one of the next shows will focus on the Banquet of Chestnuts, two topics that had yet to be covered.

Irons makes the show.

Not for me. I like him, but not particularly more than others. A character I find that steals the show each time she's on screen is Catherine Sforza.

Unlikely to get a 4th season. Most likely to get a 2 Hour wrap-up movie. Neil Jordan, the creator of the series, doesn't want to do another 10 episodes. He would rather film a movie instead.

Works for me. I'm not necessarily yearning for another season, though would welcome a wrap-up special. Getting the sense these characters are nearing the end of their shelf life this season.

Yeah, I can deal with it. I don't think this season has been as good as the first 2 anyhow.

Season 3 will be the end of the show. No 4th season or movie wrap up: http://www.deadline.com/2013/06/show...to-wrap-story/

I still have all of seasons 2 & 3 to watch myself.

I hope it has an ending that doesn't dangle then. The last few episodes have been very good.

I completely lost interest about 4 episodes into this season and decided to drop it. I may catch up at some point knowing it's the end, but I feel no big loss here.

Re: The Borgias -- Season 3 Thread -- Sundays (Showtime)

The show wasn’t always terrific, but it had its moments and Jeremy Irons was outstanding. Honestly, the Borgias was never going to be a show with a really long run. It was expensive. It was about a relatively short-lived dynasty, and Jordan himself was writing the majority of episodes.

The timing here is somewhat of a surprise considering the most recent episode just hit a 2 year high in viewers. Still, I'll admit to being a bit disappointed they'll be no 2 hour film as had been rumored, but Jordan has said the this seasons finale felt like the end. All things considered, I'll take it.

Re: The Borgias -- Season 3 Thread -- Sundays (Showtime)

Knowing it ends this season, they really should have killed him off last season and spend this season on Della Rovere vs. Cesare for the crown. Instead this season has pretty much all felt like a big filler and no real ending in sight.

I will repeat again, when no one was looking this became one of the best shows currently running on television. As always my viewing a program is usually a curse that causes it to be canceled. Maximum Bob or John From Cincinnati anyone?

What a complete cock tease of a series finisher. It was getting really good and I don't know which sofa seats they looked for the change to fund that last episode, but to have it end on that note is very bitter sweet. I really regret they didn't even give them that movie option. Not even a couple of episodes for a half season like HBO did for Treme.

Such a shame.

Showtime's been making episodes available on demand one week ahead of time the whole season.

I was very disappointed with the ending too.

The siege scene was great though.

Re: The Borgias -- Season 3 Thread -- Sundays (Showtime)

"The Borgias," the Showtime historical drama created by Neil Jordan and starring Jeremy Irons as Pope Alexander VI, was not a big breakout hit for the premium network, which canceled the series in the midst of its third season in June, making the season finale the de facto series finale. But the show does have its fans, ones who were willing to pitch in to hire a plane to fly over the Television Critics Association summer press tour last month with a banner saying "D Nevins: Sho fans you care -- save The Borgias."

Showtime president David Nevins was not terribly moved by the display, joking "I feel bad about the money that's being spent" before explaining "We looked hard at doing a two-hour finale for 'The Borgias' and the economics of it just didn't make sense. We didn't move forward, and it came to a good stopping place at the end of season three."

Well, it looks like Showtime isn't going to leave those fans in search of closure completely out in the cold. The network announced today that Jordan will be releasing an e-book, "The Borgia Apocalypse" (yes, it's really called that), based on his original script for the series' two-hour finale. "The Borgia Apocalypse" will be available this week via major e-retailers, which isn't quite the same as the wrap-up movie most canceled series fanbases hold out hope for, but is something. "We're thrilled that the series' loyal fans will have the opportunity to read Neil's final farewell to one of history's most infamous families," said the network.

Re: The Borgias -- Season 3 Thread -- Sundays (Showtime)

Showtime cancelled The Borgias after three seasons, There was some talk of wrapping up the series with a two-hour movie but the cable channel opted not to do it.

Though the finale won’t be filmed, fans of the show will soon be able to read how the infamous family’s story ends.

Neil Jordan has written an ebook called The Borgia Apocalypse which is based on his finale script. It will be available at major outlets (presumably Amazon, iTunes, etc.)

The Borgia Apocalypse: The Screenplay has been released for $9.99.
