CBS's typical viewer has never used the internet, so no worries.

lol

There would be a big fuss and uproar if one of the major networks did decide to go to cable so I doubt it would happen.

ABC has to be considered an inferior network since they don't carry the NFL and have not televised the Super Bowl since 2006 Super Bowl 40 with Steelers vs Seahawks.

They could definitely offer a competing product by Internet (licensing the technology or creating their own analogous but not the same technology).

I don't think it likely at all that this would let them retransmit the signal by cable distribution as they do today, though. They fought that and lost (even though I frankly think they should have won). It's not the fact that they get it with an antenna that lets them do this. It's the fact that they're just leasing you one or two (depending on the package) tiny little tuners you just happen to access by the Internet like a Slingbox.

FOX is pretty much the only channel to have had decent programming, with the occasional NBC comedy every few years. CBS/ABC can die and I wouldn't even notice.

I'd love to see this happen, and see the return of INDEPENDENT TV stations, run by people who actually live in the communities they serve and care about what potential viewers want! (Of course they could just end up going to all infomercials...)

I'm sure Disney doesn't see it that way. If they wanted the NFL on ABC, they could pay for it. But it is far more beneficial to them to pay for having the NFL on ESPN. And they pay a ton for that. Disney seems to be using ABC more to target female viewers (and note that outside of college football, Disney hardly uses ABC for sports anymore).

Niche channels seem to happen, then eventually follow the trend and are destroyed. It sucks. Remember some channels that used to be commercial free, uncut, uncensored, no popups, and they let the end credits run in peace? AMC, Fox Movie Channel, Universal HD? I can only think of one left now...HDNET Movies. Then you've the major premium channels like Starz and Showtime which will slap a bottom banner during programming to promote an upcoming movie or show and/or mangle the end credits. HBO/MAX is the only one respectful of not doing that since one is supposed to pay the extra premium to not see the advertising crap.

The networks have to rethink how they do commercials. There are too many of them and they come on too often. Put commercials between shows. I just cannot watch anything on network tv that is not DVR'ed.

ABC decided to abandon male viewers a few years ago. Their shows are entirely crafted toward feminine tastes and attitudes these days.

That is why they have Diane Sawyer as their lead anchor for the evening news which nobody watches it.

Everybody shits on NBC but ABC is so much worse and surprised they still show Americas Funniest Home Videos after all these years and in the age of youtube.

Re: Two of Four networks will consider going off air

NBC is #4? Thursday night comedy shows is one of the only things I watch on TV.

And they don't need to go off air. They need to rework the ratings system to include new media platforms. Problem solved, right?

Just like I watch a bunch of shows on Hulu. But I doubt my views are noted in any way.

Doesn't "One Million Moms" actually have a membership considerably less than one million?

Considering some of the outfits Emily Van Camp wears on Revenge I don't think ABC has given up on male viewers.
