FYI

This will re-air this Wednesday at 10pm in place of a Chicago Fire repeat.

They don't, which is one of the MANY reasons why I think a show such as The Following has succeeded so quickly. It simply runs through the episodes, not spending too much time on any one thing, but still manages to touch on key points. This was just slow and it wasn't very captivating, not to me at least.

His role as the assistant in the later half of The Larry Sanders show was a revelation to me as a huge Kids in the Hall nerd. It's not dramatic but his portrayal of such a low-key and grounded character is a pretty big eye-opener compared to the over-the-top stuff he did on KitH. When he's left to his own devices he can get pretty cartoony but when the part calls for him to reign it in he does so admirably and with remarkable subtlety.

Between his twitter and his podcast and the various commentaries and documentaries that feature him its apparent that he's a pretty flighty and emotional guy but as a performer he's a total pro.

Believe it or not when you watch "Death Comes To Town" you're watching Thompson recovering from a recent battle with non-Hodgkins lymphoma. No bald cap for him when he's playing Dusty the coroner. Even more reason to respect the man.

I was also surprised (and pleased) to see Scott Thompson. At the first glimpse, I had a 'Hey, wait a minute' moment. My brain knew that I recognized him, but I wasn't sure why.

I thought it was a fantastic pilot, and really got me excited to see the remainder of the season. I've always been a fan of the character (both the books and the films) so I was looking forward to this for a while. The cast is excellent, and Mads crushes the role of Hannibal. When he's on screen, you're just glued to it. I also like Darcy and Fishburne, and think the relationship between Will and Crawford could make for some great interactions down the road.

The girl from Wonderfalls has become quite a hottie.

Glad I wasn't the only one that couldn't understand Mads. Holy shit that accent. Still a great pilot, though.

Re: Hannibal -- Series Premiere -- "APÉRITIF" -- 4/04/13

Just now got around to watching this, really solid pilot. Does Mads get any easier to understand as the season goes on? It isn't a big deal but a mix of his accent and the way he talks is just hard to figure out.

I think it's funny though, the show looks like a network TV show, but the content doesn't suit network TV at all.

Props to NBC for having the most unique shows on network TV, shame none of them catch on.

Also, Will is a surprisingly solid shot.

Mads can be tough to understand throughout the season. You really have to give the show your full attention. It's worth it, though. Great first season.

The show is great but his accent never gets any easier to understand. It even floats on occasion from cultured doctor to something else without rhyme or reason. It's the only failing of a fantastic first season.

I'll disagree. I think he gets easier to understand. Not that he's speaking any better, but rather you are used to hearing it so much, it becomes easier to hear.

It isn't too bad, I can't understand every word but I generally know what he's talking about.

The thing I like most about the show is it is exactly what you'd expect from the guy that made Wonderfalls and Pushing Daisies. It's one of the most visually creative shows I've seen in a while.

It's about time. Why the 3 1/2 month delay? Did you just let these sit on your DVR unwatched waiting until a 2nd season was announced?

Summer TV viewing, this was next in line. It would have been a couple weeks ago but Orange is the New Black unexpectedly took its place.

Oh and fuck human mushrooms.

I agree with your disagreement. I also thought he was easier to understand after the first couple of episodes.

Re: Hannibal -- Series Premiere -- "APÉRITIF" -- 4/04/13

The one thing I can say about the show is it is hurt by the 44 minute runtime. This show needs a full 50 - 55 minutes like its Showtime/HBO counterparts. The combination of case and serial is fine and entertaining, but the cases constantly feel rushed.

The episodes also go by ridiculously fast, but I always feel like there are details missing come the end of the episode. The mix of Will's descent, Hannibal's ill doings, Freddie Lounds, Dr. Bloom, Jack and Jack's Wife and the murder-of-the-week is just way, way way too much.

Still very entertaining, but it could be better if they just calmed the fuck down. I almost wish they just dedicated the entire season to two or three of these serial killers, but that wouldn't sell into syndication.

Re: Hannibal -- Series Premiere -- "APÉRITIF" -- 4/04/13

The season finale aired the other day in the UK. The fanfare is incredibly strong over there, I know it has little influence but it's good to see.

If they get David Bowie, season 2 will be unstoppable.

Amen. The "serial-killer-of-the-week" formula is moving way too fast and cheapens the show. How damn many serial killers ... and I mean seriously f#cked up serial killers ... can a person run into in a few months? They should have picked three and gave each a multiple-episode story arc.

Jack's wife seemed to be a thrown away story-line that will have no pay-off. They should have scrapped it.

I like what they did with the Freddie Lounds character, but the actress has not settled into the role yet.

I'm really hoping 1) they get to Red Dragon and 2) let it play out like a mini-series instead of a typical TV show.
