Arrow -- "Salvation" -- 3/27/13

Synopsis:
An angry resident of The Glades who calls himself "The Savior" (guest star Christopher Redman) embarks on a kidnapping and killing spree to punish those he believes have wronged the residents of his neighborhood. Oliver is horrified by this statement and vows to stop "The Savior," but his manhunt in intensified after Thea (Willa Holland) comes to him in tears and tells him Roy (guest star Colton Haynes) has been kidnapped. Laurel (Katie Cassidy) is surprised when her father (Paul Blackthorne) starts to believe her mother's (guest star Alex Kingston) claim that Sara is still alive. Meanwhile, Malcom (John Barrowman) tells Moira (Susanna Thompson) to find the person responsible for his attempted murder. David Ramsey and Colin Donnell also star. Yao-Fei's daughter laid down some heavy-duty shit down on that poor island lackey.
I find it hard to believe on such a big island that Fires was able to find their hiding spot for the circuit board.
Otherwise I agree, it was a pretty mediocre episode.

This episode seemed like a fairly ordinary Arrow episode, though I had no problems with it. I wonder if the showrunners regret those early episodes where Queen went around killing people? They seem to be edging away from Green Arrow's vendetta on the criminally rich. I think if they had known Arrow was going to be such a big hit, they would have backed off the angle that Arrow is a remorseless killer of criminals.

I kind of liked this episode. Thought the acting of both moms were pretty good. I liked the scene with the fake daughter. I thought the ending to the train guy was tragic. The flash reference was out of place but I still liked it.
The only bad point for me was Roy. I just don't like the character.

They can't call Roy Harper "Speedy" which is a bit confusing. I suppose they're going to end up calling him "Arsenal", or some such thing (if he's even introduced as a sidekick in the show).

maybe they kill off the sister, and Roy Harper takes the name "Speedy" in her memory.

I thought it was an okay episode. Think it set up a lot of things, including:
- catalyst for Roy's change
- signaled Ollie and Laurel getting close
- Moria literally has blood on her hands (man she is a bad actress), and I'm sure she'll do something stupid
I think great part of the episode was Ollie chasing the guy down in daylight, only for everybody to still see him die.
The part with Laurel and her parents seemed weird. Not sure why we went through that for two eps.

I didn't think this episode was that bad. Sure the villain ended up being pretty tame, but the episode had a pretty frenetic pace. Plus, Felicity got alot of screentime.
The only negative was bringing up that Laurel's sister may be alive and it turned out to be a pointless wild goose chase. There was really no meat to that storyline. Seemed like a waste bringing in Alex Kingston as Laurel's Mom.
Other than that, this seemed like one of the self contained episodes that Smallville tended to throw in every now and then.
