in case it was missed in the previous thread. Ben Mckenzie has been cast as the lead in another show. Unclear what the means exactly to his character or to Southland as a show.

Maybe all the bad shit will catch up to Ben and he gets busted. That's the only way I see this show continuing on without him. Or he gets capped. Either route sucks, though.

That lady picking up the money after Sherman's fight was fucking classic Southland.
Loved seeing Cooper and his partner's weird day. Damn it, Dr. Phlox! Why you gotta be a vandal!
And Sammy, you thief. I wonder if that will blow back to him at some point.

A much as I love this show, the freeze-frame / voice over at the beginning makes me roll my eyes every single time. Tonight's with the circus and front row was especially cringe-worthy.
I wasn't feeling tonight's episode as much, although while Im not enjoying the mama drama storyline, I liked how the partner finally called her out on all of her shit.
How did Sammy get the money? Off the train platform? You'd think investigators would catch all that with cameras or something.

Yeah, Sammy picked it up from somewhere along the route. My guess is he was claiming it was "evidence" and pocketed it.

Not looking good...
EXCLUSIVE: Southland co-star Shawn Hatosy has joined the cast of CBS‘ drama pilot Reckless, directed by Catherine Hardwicke from a script by Dana Stevens. The sultry legal show set in Charleston, South Carolina, centers on Jamie, a gorgeous Yankee litigator, and Roy, a Southern City Attorney (Cam Gigandet), who struggle to hide their intense attraction while clashing over a police sex scandal. Hatosy, who plays Det. Sammy Bryant on Southland, will play another police detective, bad-boy Trey. For Hatosy, the casting is in second position to Southland, which is currently airing its fifth season. The critically praised cop show, which originated on NBC, has never been a big ratings performer and is again on the bubble, but it has been a prestige series for TNT, which has not made a decision on its future. Hatosy, repped by IFA and H2F Entertainment joins fellow Southland star Ben McKenzie, who also booked a CBS drama pilot, The Advocates.

Who can blame them? They need to secure work if the show is on the bubble.

Exactly... They could still in theory continue the show... but what's the point I guess...

Well, they are both second, so if Southland comes back, both those guys are still on Southland.

Not my favorite episode of the season. I too was happy to see Ruben call out Lydia for her stubborness...actually just being a flat out bitch.
I had a feeling that Ben would hook up with that teacher.
The loitering black kid was kind of annoying.
Agree, loved Ben's fight with that guy on the subway and then the chick coming along and grabbing the money.

Especially with a show like this that has a really short season and is produced with a limited budget, I get these guys need to secure other work just in case. I assume the network Pilots pay alot more than Southland too. I think they continue to work on the show based on loyalty to the franchise and not the paychecks, which I think is cool.
However, If Michael Cudlitz takes another job, then the show truly is fucked.

These second position deals happen all the time. If Southland is renewed, everyone comes back.
It's like Damon Wayans Jr. a couple years back. He was on Happy Endings, but did the pilot for New Girl. When Happy Endings was renewed, New Girl had to recast.

So CBS has two new lawyer shows they are working on, and both have a cast member of Southland? Why must CBS always ruin everything?
