Supernatural -- "Everybody hates Hitler" -- 2/06/13
Synopsis:
SAM AND DEAN FACE OFF AGAINST A GOLEM - Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) investigate the death of Rabbi Bass (guest star Hal Linden, "Barney Miller"), who spontaneously combusted. The case becomes ever more confusing when they learn that the Rabbi was researching Nazi Necromancers. Sam and Dean are attacked by a Golem (guest star John DeSantis) who turns out to belong to the Rabbi's grandson, Aaron (Adam Rose). The key to the case lies with the Golem but Aaron doesn't know how to control him, which leaves everyone in danger. Phil Sgriccia directed the episode written by Bed Edlund (#814).

Not a great ep--too many nitpics for that--but I really like the mythology update that started last week, and I love the home base. I kinda wish they'd keep it for the rest of the show. We've seen them rootless since forever, and they can still travel around. Bring Garth & Kevin to the batcave, swap out the old records for Dean's choice in the background, and it all feels fresh even for monsters of the week.

Wow, I think this was a great episode! The secret bunker headquarters, the Nazi Necromancer, the Jewish Golem - I liked everything that developed in this episode from what was set up last week in episode 12 with their grandfather.
I really hope the quality increase in the show seen in these two episodes continues because, for the first time since Eric Kripke still ran the show, I'm really looking forward to how the rest of the season plays out. I think the improvement by the switch from Sera Gamble to Jeremy Carver as co-showrunner is finally starting to show.

I do like the addition of a Batcave for the brothers. They should have added something like that years ago. Didn't the show already have a golem episode in the past? I presume we'll see those characters again. Nazi necromancers could make for decent recurring villains, though the first one's accent was awful, an obvious put-on.

Yes, this was awesome. A secret lair, new allies, Nazis, Sam finding something he likes, Dean not being a dick about it. It's everything this show has been needing.

The CW renewed this for a 9th season today.
Ratings are up this season because of Arrow as a lead-in. Hard to believe this series was originally only envisioned as a 5 season show.

It's not like the CW has a lot of shows that do better than this. I'd say it'll last until the stars are making too much money.

The stars are already making a ton of money for a show on the CW. Most of the budget goes towards the two stars, which is why the rest of the show is run as cheaply as possible. As long as Jared and Jensen want to keep up the grind, the CW will keep it on the air.

Jared and his wife just had a new baby a year ago. I'm sure he needs to regular paycheck.
