Leverage -- Season 5 -- Fall Episodes (Now Tuesdays on TNT)

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Returns tonight for the start of 5 new episodes. Since there are so few episodes left this season, it's probably not worth doing weekly threads.

Tonight is episode 11 of 15

"The Low Low Price Job"

The crew targets a big-box superstore that's threatening to destroy a small town.

Dean Devlin, one of the Producers of Leverage, posted the below note today. He says that Episode 15 was written as a "Series Finale" should TNT not renew the show.

Dear LEVERAGE Fans,

As of the writing of this letter, we still do not know if there will be a season six of our show. Just as we didn’t know when we created the last three episodes which are about to air. Because of this uncertainty, John Rogers and I decided to end this season with the episode we had planned to make to end the series, way back when we shot the pilot. So, the episode that will air on Christmas is, in fact, the series finale we had always envisioned.

This is not to say we would not do a season six should we get the opportunity. Everyone involved with the show, from the cast, the crew, the writers and producers, would like nothing more than to continue telling these stories. But, in case we do not get that opportunity we felt that, creatively, after 77 episodes, we owed it to you, our fans, to end the show properly.

I sincerely hope you watch these last three episodes. They build to our conclusion. And the finale, I believe, is the most powerful episode we’ve ever done.

From all of us who make the show, thank you for watching, supporting and encouraging us. I’ve never experienced a fandom as intense, loyal and wonderful as you all.

Let’s go steal a series finale!

Dean Devlin

Executive Producer/Director LEVERAGE
The season and possibly series finale is Christmas Night.

While I will admit this year it has lost some steam I still enjoy the series and would like to see it continue.

I appreciate them doing that for fans. I hope the show continues, though.

I'm fine with it ending. It's been a chore for me to slog through an episode this season.

It was a fun ride, but I'm cool with it ending.

I have to say though that season 5 is their weakest season. All the plots are self contained and there is no main big bad guy like previous seasons.

The thing is with Nate and Sophie being together as well as Hardison and Parker, the characters feel way too domesticated. There is no tension among them and I think some of them became soft.

I agree, though this past episode (with the toy company) was great.

The good news: The producers said they wrote the season finale to work as a series finale in case the show got cancelled. Should be a good one.

I'll miss the show but 5 years is a good run. As long as a show gets a good conclusion and doesn't end in a cliffhanger, I'm happy.

This. Good to know there was no real season arc. Maybe I will watch the one tomorrow then...

I'm a LEVERAGE fan and I thought the series finale wasn't that bad. It was one of the better episode this season. Some good twists in the storyline.

I'm going to miss it.

Strong finish to the series. I figured the gang wasn't dead, but they really had me guessing for a while as to what actually happened. Loved Elliot rolling his eyes as he got "shot".

I wonder if they were hoping to continue the show without Nate? Timothy Hutton's the glue, and easily the best actor on the show. I don't think it would work without him.

Spoiler for the show Hustle:
Spoiler:
Do you think they pretty much ripped off the fake death from that show?

Have they said why it got cancelled? Were the ratings too low? I wouldn't mind an season with just Elliot/Parker/Hardison. I ejoyed the episode that just featured them earlier this season. They could get Jeri Ryan back for the grifter position.

Dammit Hardison!!

so if this show had been renewed, I wonder if they were really going to keep Nate and Sophie off of the show for good, or find some contrived way to get them back in the fold.

I liked the finale, although I didn't buy for a second that anyone had actually died.

Seasons 1 and 2 had self contained plots with no big bad also. It wasn't until season 3 that they introduced a season arc with a big bad.

The "softening" of Parker was a big part of her character development over the series, she started as basically a rampaging id with borderline aspergers.

As for the romances, it's part of the tightrope that shows have to walk when dealing with relationships. Obviously the wooing and flirting is more interesting initially, with the will-they-won't-they tension playing out. However, if you keep a couple with romantic interests in each other apart for too long, people just start to get sick of it. However, once they're in a relationship, it's harder to keep that interesting.

TNT hasn't said anything officially, but I'm guessing it was a combination of sagging ratings along with the rising costs associated with longer running shows (everyone typically gets paid more the longer a show runs). The writers did appear to see this coming at least.

I believe the other reason I heard was that TNT had a few strong pilots that they wanted to go with instead. On the ratings thing, until I read this thread by DJariya, I had no idea that Leverage was even back on or had moved to Tuesday night instead of its customary Sunday night time slot.

I liked the finale like most here. I knew that no had died too since it was too damn obvious. It felt like an earlier season episode which was great. Five years is a pretty good run for a cable tv series and they have nothing to be ashamed of.

Yup, I'm aware of at least 2 TNT drama Pilots that could go to series next year.

The Last Ship: Stars Eric Dane, Adam Baldwin
Legends: Stars Sean Bean, Produced by Howard Gordon

Something had to go. 5 years was a great run for Leverage.

Would be nice if they could make a few movie of the week Leverage reunions. One or two a year shouldn't be that difficult. Has cable really ever done this? I know network cannels have reunion movies (or used to).

SyFy did it with Stargate SG1 but announced it with the cancelation. The Pretender also did it on NBC. MaCGuyer also did it. These were not reunion shows but continuations (and conclusions.)

That was a cool finale. Liked that they kept Leverage alive. This was definitely a down season, but it was a fun show due to the dynamic of the team. I'll miss it.
