After that cold-blooded shit he pulled on Glenn, you would accept Merle into your group, even if Merle does kill the Governor and save Rick's group?

If Buttmunker wins, does he get to stiffle your Troy?

I saw more redemptive hope in Lloyd Henreid than I do in Merle Dixon. (And if you don't know the name "Lloyd Henreid," then shame on you, sir!)

Yes. Yes I would. You, on the other hand. I question your dedication to survival during the zombie apocalypse.

Yes, well. Merle did less harm when Rick locked his ass to a pipe and left him at the mercy of the elements.

There is absolutly no way Rick would let Merle join their group if he finds out what was done to Glenn.

Just got around to watching this week's ep. I had been putting it off as I was worried that the show would go where the comics* went with the captives and I just didn't wanna deal with that. Thankfully, they've not gone that far. Yet.

Knowing Andrea, it's just going to turn her on even more.

I think the show is clearly setting up Andrea and possibly Daryl for loyalty tests. Andrea, being as sharp as a Nerf ball, is going to fail.

What is it about this show's murderous sociopaths that have some people flocking to their banner? First Shane, now Merle. "That deranged nutjob with no sense of loyalty and who's willing to kill anyone to get what he wants? Totally want him watching my back!" Being on Team Merle isn't going to increase your survival probability, it's going to nose-dive it. Merle's only looking out for 1.5 persons, and you ain't on the list.

But at least now I know how the Joker keeps finding henchmen.

Was it in the book? Then no, it won't be in the movie.

That's how the best zombie media has dealt with things. The zombies themselves are a destructive force of nature that tears down society. The interesting part is how the survivors act in the aftermath. Ultimately, a good zombie story isn't much different than any other disaster/survival epic.

Speculation on next week's show (not informed by the comics): It's the mid-season finale and cliffhanger. There's no way the Woodbury stuff is wrapping up until the end of the season, and there's no way that they set up ZombieDome and won't have at least one of the prison group play. So I'm thinking either Daryl or Andrea will betray the group and get them captured. Most likely Andrea, because stupid. That would give the show another chance to go to the dark places of the comic, so keep your fingers on the fast-forward button.

*OH NOES HE MENTIONED THE COMICS EXIST!

In my mind, there is zero chance of A) Merle joining the prison group and B) Merle surviving the season. My only question after this week's episode is will it be Glenn who kills him or Daryl? I was thinking Daryl before, but now I think it might end up being Glenn.

I'm about 500-some pages in, but the author, asshole that he is, spoiled the halfway point twist in On Writing.

I'm not sure who will kill Merle, but my guess is that whoever kills him does it with Merle's knife hand.

I speculate Michonne killing Merle. She seems like a serial killer.

Actually I'd love to see Merle escape everybody's clutches and fend for himself again in the wilderness, to show up in season 5.

OMG COMIC BOOK SPOILERS!
Spoiler:
So now that Michonne and Rick are headed back to Woodbury, what are the odds that we are going to see stuff from the comic play out? Will Merle cut off Rick's hand in bit of ironic vengeance? Will Rick then double down on the irony and claim Merle's knife hand from the redneck's corpse?

Also, if we are going to see Carol or Beth gunned down while holding the baby during the assault on the prison, it's totally going to be Andrea pulling the trigger.

Comic book readers, please don't spoil this, but does anyone else get the feeling they've setup a showdown between Glenn and the Governor? When the Governor was toying with Glenn by touching Maggie in front of him, you could see Glenn seething with rage. A little vengeance seems to be in order. Either that or it's going to be Andrea.

I was thinking the same thing, that it will Glenn or Maggie to take him down, or both or maybe they will throw him to his daughter zombie.

There's so many ways he could meet his end, and they all sound pretty satisfying!

Merle assumed Glenn would get bit, die, and become a zombie. Once Glenn tells the group this, they'll know that Merle is too much of a loose-canon to be a part of it.

It's one thing to beat up Glenn; it's quite another to sic a zombie on him while he's tied to a chair and "defenseless." You can't overlook that; you can't forgive that.

Not to mention the horde of zombies Merle unleashed on the group in season 1 when he stole the truck from Atlanta. They knew it was him.

Regarding the comic question:

Spoiler:
I'm betting there will be no hand cutting. Kirkman has stated that he really regretted that and if he had a chance to rewrite that, he would do so. I'm betting that applies to the show.

And be warned, the entire episode got leaked and results are all over the place. I avoided it, but did watch a Spanish promo. Not really a leak because there are international promos and commercials showing this on the air, but I'll spoiler it just-in-case as it does set up some major future story ramifications so be double-dutch warned no tag-backs if you want it all to be a surprise:

Spoiler:
We know that the guard was not Tyrese as some speculated since we actually see the real Tyrese leading a small party over some rubble as they hear gunfire in the distance. One part member is clearly his daughter.

Please be vague discussing the last part if possible.

I can't get excited over Tyreese because the show has done such a shit job with its black characters. And of course, the Rule of One means poor Two-Dog is in for the chop.

I agree with this, in part because of what Kirkman said, and in part:

Spoiler:
Because characters missing hands always look shitty, even Merle. There's either a bulky bit of the "stump" where the hand should be, or their artificial appendage (knife in Merle's case, chainsaw in Ashe's) always looks too long because there's a real hand under it. To have a main character missing a hand would just make it even more obvious episode after episode.
