Re: Toy Hunter - Travel Channel (Wednesdays)

I definitely had the Lobros figure when I was little but I sold it loose at some point. Until I saw that episode I didn't even remember what it was. I might still have the gun somewhere unless I sold it with all my Star Wars toy weapons when I sold my Star Wars collection a few years back.

Re: Toy Hunter - Travel Channel (Wednesdays)

I did not know the GI Joe Tomahawk and some of the other GI Joe pieces existed and I was a collector in the 80's though not super hardcore since I was young and did not have a lot of money.

Anyone visit Mile High Comics? That must be a nerds paradise!

I heard about but never actually saw the place until the last episode though it looks like it is located in the middle of nowhere and probably hidden like an adult video store.

I really wish the show would take the focus off these hunts for celebrities. Hell the guy on this past week was barely even a celebrity so I don't know why they do a show about something like that. Just show Jordan getting whatever he needs for his shop or for a convention instead like the first season did. That was more entertaining to me.

Re: Toy Hunter - Travel Channel (Wednesdays)

I love the show for nostalgia purposes but it also makes me clinch my fists at times. I dont know how many times I see toys I had that either ended up in the trash, lost or worse, burned in the 2003 fires.
Then something really cool happened on the Wonder Con (GI-JOE grab) episode. For years I have been trying to not only locate, but name a toy I had. I remember the thing never worked properly either.
Well come to find out it was the Mego Micronauts Rocket Tubes ! For years I tried to name it and describe it with no luck. I was thinking maybe if Jordan showed up at SDCC this year I could pick his brain and just like that I see it on an episode. What are the chances some toy I am looking for that I have had no luck in finding or naming gets shown on TV.

I was so happy but then I clinched my fists again after seeing how much they can go for

I haven't seen this show, but I used to have the GI Joe Tomahawk. It was a Christmas or birthday present, and I dropped it right away and broke some of the rotor blades off. It also makes me feel old to hear about toys that were new when I was a kid being called vintage now. Also, I still wish I had my old Jetfire transformer, which was awesome. But it was sold at a garage sale.

I still have my Jetfire but I can't figure out how to change him anymore. I'm afraid I'll break him.

Jetfire was easily the coolest toy of the '80s.

For those wanting a Tomahawk, Hasbro is rereleasing it this year as the Eaglehawk. Target has it as an exclusive. I have no idea why they called it Eaglehawk. Maybe it isn't PC to use the word Tomahawk anymore.

In a moment of serendipity, a pristine Jetfire was on tonight's episode. They also had a Hot Wheels Service Center that brought back a lot of memories.

Seeing that sealed U.S.S. Flagg was interesting. You'll hardly ever see anything still that pristine. It's considered a win if you've still got the package and all the parts, but still sealed is a rarity,

And that Boba Fett from the Droids line was too much. Specially cause both parties knew how expensive it was and went huge right out of the gate.

I have what I consider a "pristine Jetfire". Just missing the gun. Got him last year. I work at a antique shop and people are always bringing in stuff to sell. This one lady brought in her sons toys. All from 70's and 80's and in beautiful condition. The owner of the shop bought all the Tonka and FP from her and I was able to snag the MotU, Hot Wheels and Matchbox, and the Transformers for $120. The G1 Transformers lot included Jetfire, Blizwing (?), Dirge, and Optimus. The best thing out of that purchase though was a beautiful and complete Castle Greyskull.

Cool that you finally got the answer. The Rocket Tubes were a bit of a PR snafu for Mego at the time. They never worked properly due to faulty design, and many were returned to stores. I could have got a boxed one for not too much money at a toy show I was selling at a couple weeks ago, but it was missing some pieces, and the damn thing wouldn't work anyway, so setting it up would be kind of anti-climactic.

Indeed. I picked up a complete Jetfire (non-yellow) a few years ago for $150. It was expensive but really wanted this piece. The box was a little beat up but all the pieces were there. Since it is a Robotech mold, they probably can never re-release this again.

Somewhere hidden in my storage facility I know I've still got my Super Powers Hall of Justice playset. I can't remember if I still have it in the box, but I know its there.

I forget how much they went into detail on "Bumblejumper" but being a Transformers collector I know that it was produced (by Takara in Japan) and sometimes found it's way into either bumblebee or cliffjumper packaging in the United States.

What was bullshit about that episode was the value of it at the time. I picked up as mint of one as you can find on ebay about a decade ago for about $50 when Transformers were outrageously priced across the board. Those supposed Transformers collectors valued it like crackheads and for as big a collection as they had I was shocked they didn't have that piece.

I looked at ebay the other day and they crap looking ones going for $100+ and one close in condition to mine for $200. I wonder if the exposure on the show actually drove the price up.

I had the Rocket Tubes playset as a child and although I thought it was cool (loved the glow-in-the-dark stickers) I could never get it to work properly.
I'd never heard about the faulty design. I always chalked it up to me just being a kid...

I never knew of the design flaw either. I mean, how would I, I was a kid. But I guess you really never knew about stuff like that back then like today with the internet.
I remember right out of the box it never worked right. It seemed to not have the air-flow it should have or the seems had leaks and not allowing the air pressure to 'move' the shuttle along.
I remember putting on all the glow stickers thinking how cool it was going to be in the dark and I was denied
I still kept it for years until who knows what happened with it. Probably was thrown out by family knowing it didnt really work.
Was OK that it didnt work though because that same day, my other B-Day present was the Evil Knievel Stunt Cycle. I played with that thing til the mid-'80s man !

This weeks show ... who was the eye candy

Re: Toy Hunter - Travel Channel (Wednesdays)

Jordan royally screwed that guy in the Buck Rogers deal. The guy was way more then reasonable in asking for $20 a figure. Mint on the card. But Jordan has to be a cheapass and only offer $10/figure ($50 for all 5). Figures are $10 today in stores. 35 year old figures are worth more then a moden figure. Would have serverd Jordan right if the guy refused to sell and he didn't have figures for Twiki.

LOL at Jordan thinking he has a new 'client'. The guy bought items from the show he was in. Other then Buck & Wilma, he probably has the entire Buck Rogers line now. I don't think he is going to be calling up for random other things.

Man I want that Convoy Truck.

Yeah, was really surprised by the $50 for all 5 as well.

BTW, how disappointing it must be to walk into a garage and see all that current SW merch.
