Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Synopsis:

Shelley Long ("Cheers") Returns as Dede Pritchett

"Arrested" - Phil and Claire get the dreaded late night call that Haley has been arrested for under-aged drinking, so they bring Mitchell, the family lawyer, in tow to the police station. Cameron stays back to watch over Alex and Luke, but they get into some crazy mishaps under his care. Meanwhile, Jay gets out of baby shopping with Gloria, but ends up having to deal with a surprise visit from Dede, and tries to scoot her out before Gloria gets home to prevent Dede from seeing that she's pregnant and to avoid the potential blowback, on "Modern Family," WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 7 (9:00-9:31 p.m., ET), on the ABC Television Network.

I am still like, wow. That may have been one of the best parenting moments on TV ever.

They really got Haley out of college quickly.

"This is real life, not an excellent movie."

That was one of the funniest Modern Family's in a long time. Don't think we've ever seen Phil parent sternly before!

Was it me or did Shelley Long seem out of it? She was like over enunciating every word she spoke and talking super slow.

Great episode. Phil was awesome. Loved Phil's hang up on the waffles throughout the day. Plus, Cam at the hospital with the kids getting hurt was fantastic. One of the best episodes of the year by far.

Luke's line about the shiv was the line of the episode.

I figured it was how she was expected to act.

Too funny. Paraphrased it was:

"Don't push her, she may have a shiv. We're cool right?"

Easily.

Didn't think they would bring Hayley home so fast, but stern Phil finally broke through and was excellent.

Time and again since the beginning of the second season - Luke stole the show at the end.

Great episode and I could actually tolerate Mitchell this time. His whiney delivery worked well for the material

This. There are times that the critical acclaim the show gets annoys me, but damn if it isn't damn funny most weeks. There wasn't a bad line in the entire episode. And Luke continues to kill!

I think they are on a roll this season. All of them have been really good, although I liked Yard Sale better than this one.

I'm behind, but man, killer episode. Phil was on point. It was great seeing him parent for a change.

Cam at the hospital was equally fantastic. I was bummed Alex had a reaction to seeing blood. Figured her being a doctor was a shoo-in.

The mention of "slapping and name-calling" seems pretty weak. There has to be more than what the article is letting on.

And it's not the first time. Remember when his kids "poked the bear"?

I bet we find out in a later episode that Haley was trying to get thrown out of school. That she was homesick and not fitting in at college.

She seemed not to care at all about being in trouble and trying to get thrown out at the hearing.

This was a good ep., and I loved seeing serious Phil for once. Given the character's past it was easy to presume he wouldn't say much of anything. Nice to know he's not a complete nitwit.
