Re: The Walking Dead -- "Sick" -- 10/21/12

I fucking love this season.

1) Tons of good zombie kills.

2) Lori getting shit on = glee. I can't stand her. I can't stand the actress who plays her. She was terrible in Prison Break, and she's terrible in this. I just find her utterly unlikeable. And still the worst mother ever. You can't keep up with your kid in a prison.

3) While Carl's "run off by himself" schtick gets annoying, I love that while all the other characters are sitting there handwringing about how they wish they could help Herschel if only they had bandages, and while Herschel's own daughter basically gives up and tells him to go towards the light, the little boy just quietly goes, finds what they need, kills two zombies, and brings the supplies back like a pro.

4) I also love that they didn't let the crazy inmate linger. Rick saw he was a threat and offed him... very cool.

Yup. Rick did in this episode exactly what Shane would have done, except for letting 2 live.

This season is GREAT so far.

This week focused on the prison without mention of Andrea and Michonne... so I can only guess that next week will be the opposite.

Not sure I like the division of storyline, but it could be a breathe of fresh air.

BTW, last night's ep was intense.

Re: The Walking Dead -- "Sick" -- 10/21/12

Carl's basically John Connor at this point. I'm liking it. He was my favorite character in this episode.

I agree Rick has becom an echo of Shane, but less crazy.

"It's just a scratch!" Sorry guy, but the ship sailed on that type of compassion long ago.

"You don't have to tell us how to kill a guy." That much became obvious. Here's some payback. There's a new Sheriff in town.

BTW, some people mention characters we haven't been introduced to yet and even hint towards their stories. It irritates me, but it is what it is. But now I've been waiting on a character that I'm not sure I've yet seen.
Spoiler:
The Governor? From the things I accidentally read here but tried to avoid reading, I thought he was going to run the prison. Seems I have that wrong.

This episode was light years ahead of last weeks. That had everything I wanted from the last episode and some incredible tense moments. If they can keep this up, this is going to be a seriously great season.

I view Carl as Wesley Crusher... and equally as annoying.

I'm hoping that Rick is just being a grown up dealing with reality and not a gun-totin' Polyanna.

I think that was actually a pretty smart line because the inmates had no clue what was going on outside. They're at least 10 months behind in experiencing life in a post-apocalyptic world.

All in all, a surprisingly strong 2nd episode.

I liked the line about Carl having room to "do whatever he does".

I know it's coming, but I would have liked to have seen a little bit of Michonne and Andrea.

I was tossed during that scene. There was disappointment that Herschel appeared to have died, but elation that his first act was to bite Lori. I'd rather have Herschel stick around, so I guess it worked out okay.

I agree - Rick has embraced Shane's "code" now -- guess he has a longer learning curve.

But that one prisoner had to be offed - he had a gun and was a little to happy to kill his fellow inmate (I do suspect that while being locked in a room with someone for 10 months you will find a reason to hate them)

I like how Carl is growing up.. I understand how he feels and remember being that age and getting more responsibility and freedom to do what I wanted.

Eh, Rick didn't kill Tomas just because he thought he was a threat, he killed him because he knew that Tomas deliberately pushed the zombie onto him. He knew that Tomas would off Rick's group the moment he had the chance.

Yeah, that was pretty comical, especially combined with the group's reaction to watching it happen.

Rick's kill on Tomas was certainly more morally justifiable than him chasing the other inmate down and locking him in a courtyard with zombies.

Rick's instincts on the prisoners were the same ones he had on those 2 guys he killed in the bar in season 2. As soon as he saw them, he knew they had to go.

No big deal if he did. All they would have to do is paint a goal line around the cell block and that would be enough to keep him out.

Probably because it's the first remotely intelligent thing she has said or done all series.

I looked like Tomas also took a deliberate swing at Rick's head with his machete during the zombie battle. He tried to pass it off as a mistake, but Rick knew better.

That guy tried to attack Rick right after he killed Tomas, then he ran away. The other two stayed put and didn't get involved.

Did he attack Rick? I thought he just held up his weapon to defend himself after seeing what Rick did.

I remember him being upset and trying to hit him with the bat and failing.

Am I the only person who noticed that the Walker in handcuffs, looked down at his cuffs and thought about it then figured he could rip his hand off to get at that big dude easier?

This mean the "Walkers" are getting smarter?

No I didn't think that. I think they just keep moving forward without regard for what limbs they are losing.

not sure I would take that away from that scene. I liken it to the walker trying to get Lori in the car wreck: he's not gonna let a little thing like a "face" hold him back.
