The Men Who Built America -- History channel

Who's watching this? It doesn't glorify the men or criticize them, it presents them for who they are and what they did. Absolutely amazing stuff.

Vanderbilt owned the only rail line into New York, and at one point, he shut it down to spite competitors. Can you imagine someone shutting down a railroad into a state today?

For all the bitching about Pawn Stars and American Pickers, just remember, the success of those shows funds specials like this and the Caligula one that just passed.

I saw the previews for this and it looks pretty good. I'll have to check it out at some point. Hatfields & McCoys was pretty decent too, it'd be nice if maybe this is a sign that History Channel is looking into doing more of these historical based mini series or whatever from time to time more often.

I still can't get over those two guys who just kept printing shares of Erie Railroad to fuck over Vanderbilt. $1 billion scammed from the dude.

It looks like a mini-series, too, because there is a new episode on Tuesday.

This is a really handsome production (except for that cheesy train going off the bridge). It's interesting to see how all these tycoons intertwined with each other.

My only complaint is the little interview segments - they don't add anything to the show. And I really don't care what Donny Deutsch has to say about...well, anything.

Amazing that they got away with that. It was like the Wild West back then.

I forgot all about this. I'm not used to actual history documentaries being on the History Channel.

I watched part of this last night. I wasn't aware that it was a documentary I guess. I thought it was going to be a drama type series about different historical events over time and not a documentary intertwined with stories. It was still pretty good though.

Anyone else watching these episodes? This is really good. Amazing to hear JP Morgan's father dismissed electricity as a fad.
