The Office: Season Nine Premiere - "The New Guys" 9/20/12
Synopsis: "A newly empowered Andy takes charge, dealing with a defiant Nellie and two new staffers."
Any other masochists giving this a shot? I'll tune in for a few weeks, but if it's anywhere as bad as Season Eight I'm done. This will be the show's final year, of course, so maybe things will improve, as in "perhaps Nellie will be murdered by the Scranton Strangler".

I fell massively behind last season and didn't finish season 8.
However, I bought the season 8 DVD set release week and finished it up about 2 weeks. I didn't find it nearly as horrible and unwatchable and alot of people in this forum complained about week after week. Sure some of the episodes weren't good, but alot of comedies are like that.
It's the final season. 22 more 22 minute episodes to go. I'll finish it up. Plus, it helps that Greg Daniels is back working on the show in some capacity.

I bailed towards the end of last season too. I think I watched the season finale though. Either way, I'm in for this year. It's the last year, I feel they'll make it a good season.

I'm in the for this year. I actually really liked last year (thought it was the best of the last three or four anyhow). I'm excited.

The Office's season 1 show runner has returned for the final season, and the early buzz is that the quality of the show has taken a major turn for the better (at least in the early review episodes). Maybe it will come to a satisfying conclusion for longtime fans.

Last year was abysmal. Easily the worst season by a long shot. I dumped it, went back to it, dumped it again, and here we are at the premier... I'm in for Daniels. Hopefully he can right this sunken ship. That and I suffered through season 8, finishing the trek is at least some kind of payoff. My expectations aren't very high.

Since I didn't watch much of last season, (not due to any animosity), can somebody recap the changes and big happenings?

As some other posters I bailed about halfway through last season, but am definety going to watch this year to finish it off (that's what she said). Do you guys recommend I finish last season or don't bother?

At the end of last year - I swore "I was OUT"
Now that this is the last season and I have heard that they want to have a good pay off for the fans, I will be tuning in.
I hope that they listened to the fans last year and have Nellie fall down an elevator shaft. However, I think that the staff and the writers like the actress they are going to keep her around until the end.

Watching it until the end. Still a fan after all these years, even if its not as great as the first few seasons. It's still solid.

I'm still in. Hoping for Nelly to go, but other than that, I'll be along for the ride. Plus they stole back the Parks and Rec guy so it might improve anyway. But now should I worry for Parks and Rec? Hmm....

I have very little interest. But I'll watch. Just not anxious to watch it anymore.
When is 30 Rock coming back? That's something that I'm excited about.

That's what they want to happen so she'll ease back into the fold. It failed with the "magician - husband" thing before, but it seems they're trying it again.
I dunno, the two new guys seem okay, Angela's crack about black/white seemed somewhat inconsistent considering she was interested in Miner a few seasons back.
The thing about Oscar seeing the husband is going to be good.

So did Angela pay off the doctor to fake the paternity results or was she banging someone other than Dwight before she got married?

For some reason, I loved the exchange between Andy and Toby - "I can see why Michael hated you"

Way off topic, but I've started watching Arrested Development and one of the charm is seeing all the different actors from The Office turn up in bit parts. The episode I just watched had a quick scene with Kevin playing a gun store owner.
I never disliked Nelly. I felt encouraged she was going to develope into an interesting character, but she didn't seem to make it.
My expectations are low for this season, but I'm happy to give it a chance. I did enjoy much of last season, so I'm not completely turned off the show.
That said, I'm not looking forward to the story line of Oscar and the Senator. I'm tired of all this soap opera romance and scandel. I wish the show, to quote Bob Newhart, would "Stop it."
