Smallville "just started watching this" spoilers

The first 5 episodes.

First Chloe is hot.

So I guess Smallville is the Hellmouth in this universe. Kryptonit seems to turn everyone into a evil monster. How come nobody turns into a good guy or a neutral. Everybody is like I'm evil look at me roar roar. I hope the entire series isn't like this.

The stunt doubles are very noticeable. There is one scene where Clark is holding onto a car and his hair and the doubles are completely different.

Episode 5 Cool
Now this is what I'm talking about. A fairly good guy, maybe a bit of a jerk turns into heat sucking killing machine. The episode ends with Clark throwing the guy in Lex's pond. The pond freezes over as Cool guy sucks the heat out of it. The question I have about this episode is what the heck did Lex think when he found a body frozen in his pond? Nobody says anything about it.

Better get used to it for the first few seasons. IMO the series really takes off when they
Spoiler:
introduce Lois and Green Arrow.

Honestly you could save time, and watch the first and last episode of each season, and any episode with a guest star from the comics. Those were the best. Smallville unfortunately had a lot of filler episodes.

Chloe was hot until they tried to turn her into this A-sexual character.

I heard someone say that before and so far I can believe it.

S01E06 "Hourglass"
Main plot is a old guy becomes young again and uses his extra time on this earth to kill people that put him away in jail. Who writes this crap. The B plot has a old lady that can see the future on anyone she touch. The B plot was cool because we get to see Lex Luther's future where he becomes president and see some imagery that implies he kills everybody.

Yeah the first 4 seasons are mostly monster of the week episodes. Someone is infected and turns evil. Clark saves the day. Also, Lex is behind EVERYTHING. Just wait 'til you get to the "Clark storms into Lex's office to blame him for something" phase. It happened in nearly episode for a long while.

Don't forget about the episode before the Winter break. That was usually a good one too but trying to figure that one out would involve some work.

I wonder if there is a best of / mythology list. I figure you could trim down 10 seasons into 4-5 of viewable episodes. I think 8-10 most of the eps are good.

Nah, I think the OP should stick with the whole series. Outside of 3/4's of season 7 it was pretty awesome imho. And its one of the only shows I've ever seen where its strongest years are its final three.

I sorta agree with this. You really can get the gist of Smallville if you watch the "important" 4 to 6 eps a season. There are important moments housed in the other episodes that provide context between the characters, especially the dynamic between Lex and Clark, but there was just so much fluff in Smallville.

I think now, if you're going to watch Smallville, just watch Smallville. Just realize what Smallville is -- a primetime show that plays like a syndicated show from the 90s. It has more in common with the likes of Highlander and Xena, than anything else. Just enjoy the ride, and realize that that Smallville can be a fun distraction of a show, but it never really reaches its potential or any levels of greatness (even if there are some really good performances on the show -- namely Lex, Lionel, and Pa and Ma Kent).

Re: Smallville "just started watching this" spoilers

If you really like the show, I would try to watch the first two seasons all the way through, both the good episodes and the bad monster-of-the-week episodes. After that the show's quality becomes very spotty and there are about 12-13 episodes each season easily worth skipping over during the Lana years, until Lois Lane shows up as a regular.

Giles in Buffy started the trend.

That's an interesting point I've never thought of(and agree with). Could make for an interesting thread topic.

I loved this show until the 100th episode, then I think it went downhill (not off the cliff, mind you, just downhill).

Wow. That's exactly what I think too.

To the original poster, where are you watching these? DVD?

I watched all 218 eps over the summer, I really tuned out during the
Spoiler:
Lana as a witch
stretch, then thought it got going again at the season 5 finale. Big fan of the Geoff Johns eps. It seems like there are the 1st 100 eps fans and the last 100 eps fans.
The thing about Chloe is she's like the target audiences ideal girlfriend at the beginning - a little nerdy, approachable, no one acts like she's hot so she's attainable.

Netflix dvds. Unfortunately I couldn't find it streaming at the usual places.

Re: Smallville "just started watching this" spoilers

What I got out of the series is Clark was an a-hole.

He would just walk into anyone's home or business without knocking or any real reason to be there and act arrogant while questioning the person. Then when people tried to ask him something, he would say, "Just trust me".

Oh, and it always bothered me that Clark could walk into Luther's mansion or Luthercorp without any security stopping him.

I don't agree with anyone who thinks Smallville went downhill until the end. Sure there were a few clunkers here and there, but IMO after Al Gough and Miles Millar left the show (after season 7), it got better. Brian Peterson and Kelly Souders, who became the showrunners and head writers in season 8, got the show more focused to Clark's destiny.

Gough and Millar were in way over their heads once the romance with Lana flopped. They simply couldn't conceive of an idea about Clark Kent beyond the insipid teen romance angle. Smallville only stayed on the air for so many years due to the strength of the original casting. As much as Christopher Reeve owns Superman, Tom Welling is the young Clark Kent.
