Re: The New Normal -- Series Premiere -- "Pilot" -- 9/10/12

I don't know - i actually kind of liked it. But I'm on the fence.

I do agree that barkin's lines lacked conviction. It just came off as "check out this offensive thing this lady just said!"

Nene Leaks didn't annoy me like I thought she would (she only kind of annoyed me). I hope they DON'T expand her character.

I thought it was nice to see a gay couple that was not of the super effeminate mold (a la Mitchell and Cameron). Even the more effeminate one (dude from "Book of Mormon") is about on par with Mitchell in that sense. Don't get me wrong, I like Cam and Mitchell, but I know the way they are portrayed gets under the skin of many of my gay friends. And a kiss in the very first episode! What is this, 2012?

The breaking of the 4th wall by the random characters was definitely annoying. Was not funny at all at the playground. It did work better with the guy friends, but was still unnecessary. All of the guy lines could have been said in the conversation they were having.

Not funny at all, gave up after 10 minutes or so. Seems to be trying to hard to be Modern Family, but I just didn't find it funny.

Are we sure that it's supposed to be a sitcom? I actually think it may be aiming to be a 30 minute 'dramedy'. It didn't even seem that they were trying to make it funny. The characters are too grounded for it to be a sitcom. The exception being the grandma, who is just a villain.
