Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D - Will it revolutionize TV? - Preseason discussion
EXCLUSIVE: ABC has ordered a pilot for S.H.I.E.L.D, a live-action series from The Avengers writer-director Joss Whedon, Marvel TV and ABC Studios. The project is based on Marvel’s peacekeeping organization S.H.I.E.L.D (which stands for Strategic Hazard Intervention Espionage Logistics Directorate) found in both the Marvel comic book and feature film universes, including the blockbuster 2012 movie The Avengers, in which S.H.I.E.L.D director Nick Fury, recruits Iron Man, Captain America, the Hulk, and Thor to fstop Thor’s adoptive brother Loki from subjugating Earth.
S.H.I.E.L.D. will be written by Whedon, his bother Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen. Joss Whedon also is set to direct the pilot, schedule permitting. Production on the pilot, which marks the first live-action Marvel TV project to get a green light, will start immediately. Joss Whedon, Jed Whedon and Tancharoen executive produce with Jeffrey Bell and Marvel TV’s Jeph Loeb.
The project had been in the works at Marvel TV and ABC Studios for some time. Earlier this month, Disney CEO Bob Iger announced that it had signed an exclusive film and TV deal with Joss Whedon, which included him writing and directing The Avengers sequel and develop a live-action series for Marvel TV and ABC, both owned by Disney.
This marks a return to series television for Joss Whedon, creator of cult favorites Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Firefly and Dollhouse. Husband and wife writing duo Tancharoen and Jed Whedon co-wrote with Joss Whedon Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog and have also worked as writer-producers on Dollhouse and Spartacus.
Wow, I'm excited to hear about this project. I'm going to assume this will most likely air next season.

If Whedon & Co. are involved, count me in. Wonder if this is going to be set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Why stop at Minear? Throw Steven S. DeKnight, David Fury, Drew Z. Greenberg, Doug Petrie, Jane Espenson, and Ben Edlund into the mix as well.
GET THE GANG BACK TOGETHER!
Two things could happen:
1. The show fails faster than Firefly or Dollhouse.
2. The show becomes Whedon's biggest hit.
I'm okay with either-or happening.

This is a great idea, i'm all for it but, just afraid that ABC might give up on it after one season. ABC some times have that habit of giving up on TV shows. Also I don't want to see another joss whedon show getting axed.

ABC also had Hulk in development with Guillermo Del Toro involved and possibly directing. It's been in development going on 2 years because of expensive special effects concerns. I read they are trying to get something ready for this Pilot season, but who the hell knows. With this Pilot being greenlit, I think Hulk might be DOA.

How do they do a S.H.I.E.L.D. show without at least an occasional 30 seconds here and there of Samuel Jackson?
Perhaps it will be set in the past, relative to the movies.

It's going to end up being a boring spy and espionage series. It wouldn't surprise me if we barely ever get Marvel references beyond direct SHIELD stuff. It's not going to be Avengers: The Television Show.

Marvel has nO issues tying in different franchises and mediums. Not sure why you are already assuming the worst.

Marvel has pretty much given Whedon the lock and key to any filmed Marvel properties for the next three years. I don't think we'll end up with a boring piece of shit show.

I wonder if it's in the contracts of the main stars (at least the ones that have the multiple appearance deal) that they have to be in the tv show? I don't see any of the bigger stars from The Avengers wanting to do tv even if it's just a one episode arc.

If we don't get a real Nick Fury played by David Hasselhoff instead of the fake Samuel L Jackson one, I'm not watching.

Benny (Jesse Bradford) and Claire (Lizzy Caplan), a down-on-their-luck couple find a discarded Chitauri gun referred to as 'Item 47' and decide to rob a few banks. Two S.H.I.E.L.D. agents, Sitwell and Blake (portrayed by Maximiliano Hernández and Titus Welliver respectively) are then assigned to catch them.[2]
Cobie Smulders, Max, Titus. They have already introduced us to several Shield agents.
