Re: General UK TV Show chatter.
Have to say, I love this thread. I'm way behind on my UK shows, but it's great to have a thread like this to get new ideas. There's so many great UK shows that I've watched over the years that I'd never know about without online chatter and suggestions.

Also recommending "Loaded". Like an English version of Silicon Valley. Almost.

Re: General UK TV Show chatter.
I am also grateful for this thread. I haven't started anything new for quite a while, but most of the UK shows I was following have pretty much wrapped permanently, so I'll be looking for some ideas soon. The good news is I'm sure there are several great ones out there and since I haven't touched them yet they are all binge-able.

Re: General UK TV Show chatter.
series 3 of the Detectorists just started filming!

Re: General UK TV Show chatter.
^Awesome! Love that show. It was up in the air as to whether it would return, but I had heard it would be back, about a month ago or so.
For anyone else that enjoys Detectorists, you might also like a series called The Cafe. It was on for a couple of seasons, but unfortunately was cancelled. It has the same dry humour that, IMHO, makes Detectorists so good. |

Matt Berry is planning a fourth series of Toast of London
http://www.radiotimes.com/news/2018-...ast-of-london/ By Huw Fullerton In news sure to delight comedy fans around the UK, it’s emerged that more episodes of cult Channel 4 sitcom Toast of London are in the pipeline, with star Matt Berry revealing that he’s planning on writing even more adventures with series co-creator Arthur Matthews. “Yeah, there will be [more],” Berry emphatically told listeners of BBC Radio 6 yesterday while appearing on Mark Radcliffe and Stuart Maconie’s show, though added that he didn’t know when the series could be back and that he’d only started writing the stories “in his head”. Sadly, he didn’t drop any more details on what we could expect from the fourth series –in interviews past he has hinted he’d like to see lead character Steven Toast (an eccentric and self-obsessed actor having misadventures around Soho) head to LA – but it’s certainly a more positive sign for the series than when RadioTimes.com asked Berry about the subject, when he wasn’t sure that there’d be any more at all. “I don’t know, it depends,” he said at the time. “Because it takes such a long time; it’s a year to write and then it’s the pre-production and then you’ve got to film it. “It’s your whole year taken up with one series – six episodes – if you’re doing all those things, [if] you’re writing it and you’re in it.” Now, it sounds like things are finally moving for the cult series, which has recently become a hit with Americans after appearing on Netflix. Though given that Steven’s old nemesis Clem Fandango (aka actor Shazad Latif) is now off travelling the galaxy in Star Trek: Discovery, he might have to shout even louder to get him to listen to him… |
Re: General UK TV Show chatter.
Yes, I can hear you Matt Berry!

Re: General UK TV Show chatter.
Just recently started watching Detectorists. Love the dry and subtle humor of these reasonably self aware and endearingly eccentric characters.

Re: General UK TV Show chatter.
A couple of other good shows I've recently watched.
Drama's Next of Kin - Kalinda from the Good Wife - Very good. Six episodes Deals with Radical Terrorists in a very interesting and personal way McMafia - David Strathairn is the most recognized actor in this, but it's essentially a Russian Mafia show, set in London and Israel with some other locations. Totally enjoying it, last episode lined up to watch this weekend - there are 8 and the absolute best is Derry Girls, an incredible comedy show about growing up in Northern Ireland during the troubles. It's the best thing I've seen on TV in a while. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/UFmFuXH0IRY" frameborder="0" allow="autoplay; encrypted-media" allowfullscreen></iframe> |

Re: General UK TV Show chatter.
That's fair! Strathairn has an Oscar Nom though!
Good Night and good Luck! |
Re: General UK TV Show chatter.
Really enjoying W1A. Caught the 1st episode on Netflix and I was hooked. Like most UK TV shows the seasons are maddeningly short though. Only 4 episodes the 1st 2 seasons.

Re: General UK TV Show chatter.
Finished Derry Girls the other week. Fantastic.
"The Young Offenders" is another good new one. Plus season 2 of "Damned". And I'm a sucker for "Two Doors Down". A Scottish sitcom that I think is brilliant. |

Re: General UK TV Show chatter.
Was doing some poking around and for any Peep Show fans out there I see there was a 6 episode series last fall called Back starring David Mitchell and Robert Webb. The show has already been picked up for a second series.
I haven't seen it yet but will definitely be checking it out. |
Re: General UK TV Show chatter.
I loved the latest series of Plebs. I wasn't sure about the casting change when it was first announced but I think I might have enjoyed the new character more.
Friday Night Dinner has just been incredible and gotten funnier each week, hopefully they can keep it going for the last two episodes. |
