BJ Novak Quits The Office

And down goes another. He and Mindy Kaling (Kelly Kapor) will not be on the show next season (funny that they would leave at the same time).

On a positive note, Greg Daniels, who is one of the creators, will take a bigger role in the upcoming season (He had been more focused on Parks & Rec).

Well that's good news about Daniels. I won't miss the Ryan/Kelly thing. Other than his 5 seconds here or there screen time, I'd forget he was still on the show.

I'll miss the Pam/Ryan relationship.

Probably a smart move considering the downhill direction the show is going.

Make it a little funnier and bring back those touching moments. Those moments were really the best part of the show. Last season, the only memorable ones was Angela and Dwight sitting in the hospital room, and the one where Dwight almost loses his job.

Novak will remain a member of the extended Office family, however. Even though he no longer has a deal in place with series producer Universal TV, Novak is expected to make recurring appearances on The Office and could even still do some writing for the show. Novak has also directed several episodes of The Office and could return in that capacity as well.

Recurring appearances? Isn't that pretty much what his character has been delegated to for the past 4 seasons anyway? Ever since he was in Inglourious Basterds his screen time on the show diminished quite a bit.

I'm gad Daniels is dedicating more time to the show but I still don't think he can save it. Anyone else think this season will be its last?

Except that they were both writers behind the scenes, so it's a bigger deal than just the actors leaving.

Yep. Even with Daniels being fully aboard, I'll be pretty shocked if the show is anywhere close to being more watchable than last season - which was itself hard enough to make it through. If the unexpected doesn't somehow occur, I can't see how even a desperate NBC couldn't have the grace to not turn the show into a spectacle of a mouldering corpse.

Maybe they will just give Dwight his own spinoff as planned and reboot The Office as they've already talked about.

Not only a writer, but a co-executive producer.

Everyone always complains about Novak getting top billing even though he's not on the show much. He's a huge part of the show without being on it as much as others.

I doubt I'll watch unless it starts getting rave reviews. That show jumped the shark so bad this past season JAWS couldn't catch it.

Big loss between him and Kaling, as they wrote some of the show's better episodes.

And does this mean we won't even get a goodbye from them? They'll be explained away in a few sentences...since the characters are a couple they probably will have eloped or something corny.

I hope we would. Heck, even Steve Carrell's character was given a goodbye episode.

Michael was the lead character and he didn't quit between seasons. It was known at the start of the season that it would be his last.

Re: BJ Novak Quits The Office

He was busy with his other job as the Green Bay Packers QB.

Just hope Parks and Recs does not sufffer with Greg Daniels leaving or concentrating more on the Office.
