Is The Killing Season 2 worth watching?
I watched season one and while it wasn't anything amazing, it held my interest. I haven't watched any of season two and now that it is over, I'd like to ask if it is worth the time? Now that the broadcast shows are done for the season, I could pick this back up but would appreciate non-spoilered thoughts on season two. Thanks everyone!

The Killing Season 1 is worth watching more than Season 2.
And Season 1 isn't worth watching.
So, no.
Note: It isn't over until next week, though.

I feel like people that stuck with this show and people that paid for the Pacquiao/Bradley fight are like Flounder from Animal House. You fucked up, you trusted them.

Got to agree...Season 2 isn't as good as Season 1. While Season 1 was interesting (except for that horrible cliffhanger), Season 2 just became a "red herring of the week" show - each week focus on a new suspect, eliminate them as a suspect, wash, rinse and repeat.

About half the episodes were pretty good in season 1. Season 2 has yet to be any good at all. If I were to do it all over again, I'd skip it entirely unless you plan on just watching the first season (though who does that?).

Meh... I would say skip it if you hadn't watched the first season, but since you already invested time I say go for it. It isn't great (or even pretty good), but it is still better then most of the summer filler on TV.

I also liked the entire first season until the final ep, which wasn't as much bad, but exactly the opposite of what fans were told would happen.
This season has been a chore to get through, but I want to see what happens. Without spoiling anything, there was a Linden-centric episode a few weeks ago that I thought was the best of this season and I liked the episode last night and I'm sure I'll like next week's, just because it will finally be over.
But, as I've said before, the showrunner failed, but the acting was very good and I do like Holder and Linden. They'd be great characters on a better show. I'd like to see them work with Mulder and Scully if the make one last XF film.

Yeah, I keep telling people that Holder is probably the best character ever to come from an otherwise forgettable series...that's probably just a testament to how good an actor Joel Kinnaman is.

They really should have just revealed the killer in season one, and ran with the political sub-plot separately this season. They could have easily ballooned the Mayor's shady dealings into it's own season by tying him in with Rosie the way they already did.
I guess they were afraid no one would watch.
What they've done is awful though. They haven't really been able to do anything with the other story lines because they are still hung up on Rosie. It's made the whole season tedious as it has basically tapped on all the same characters as season 1 as suspects. Just really weak all around.

I like the show, so I would recommend it. If the story, characters, and in depth procedural was interesting to you, then by all means, check it out.

I wish I had never started watching it - a giant waste of time. It's technically well-made, but creatively bankrupt, without a single intelligent thought in it's little head.

Re: Is The Killing Season 2 worth watching?
^ While harsh I think this is fairly accurate.
The show went out of the way to set a mood which it did effectively most of season 1, but somewhere along the way the plot and characters became secondary and rain, every scene being in near darkness, and grief/despair "porn" (countless scenes of family grief and hospital grief scenes) became more important than character consistency, plot consistency and intelligent writing/attention to detail. Rather sad as the show looked like it had some potential.

Re: Is The Killing Season 2 worth watching?
Glad to have read this thread. I vowed to stop watching after season 1. Although it was initially decent with real potential, it turned to be a waste of time. Each week it was a different suspect. After a while, one knew that if they're pointing the viewer to a certain suspect, then it wasn't him as there was always a new suspect around the next corner. Sounds like season 2 was the same or worse. Glad to have missed it entirely.

I've watched the whole thing, but the season 2 episodes are largely forgettable. I think this show is a good example of a show that has a good concept, great actors, but showrunners who screw the whole thing up. Even though I've watched season 2, the deception of season 1 (not revealing the killer) stays in my mind during every season 2 episode, and for me the show is tainted.

I watched season one but that cliffhanger annoyed me... I had already been losing faith in the show at that point. I decided to "wait and see" with season two and if the buzz was good I'd give the show another shot. Based on what I'm reading here, skipping S2 was a good call. It's too bad they can't take the 2 or 3 decent characters and dump them into a better show.

I gave up after the first season too. Since all I've been reading about season 2 is that it's red herring after red herring, I may just go ahead and watch the finale. Maybe I'll be able to keep up. Though I'd be lying if I said I cared all that much.
The only cliffhanger I was interested in after the finale last season was how they would explain away Holder planting the evidence.

I stopped watching after episode one of season two. Thought I'd give it a chance. Thought ep one was just so boring. Did they finally say who the killer was? Can someone spoiler for me yes or no, and if so, who?

Yes.
I didn't watch the second season either but tried to follow the threads here. I watched the last two episodes. I think the season finale was decent enough. I'd recommend watching the season finale, you won't miss that much, and it's kinda better the things you'll miss.

I guess I'm one of the very few who actually enjoyed the show. This is a murder investigation spread over 26 days, so of course they will have suspects who come up empty. And it would not be accurate to say that season 2 is more of the same, because once things with the Indians got interesting, you can tell that they were the ones who were definitely involved and the last half of season 2 is about getting the evidence and putting the final pieces together

I've said it before and I'll say it again.
See the far, far (couldn't have too many "fars") superior Danish series - 20 episode first season and 10 episode second season. Everything is superior - writing, mood, acting - Sofie Gråbøl (Lund, changed to Linden in the US) is absolutely brilliant. Søren Malling who plays Holder's counterpart, Meyer, blows him away. A third and final season is going to be broadcast in Denmark in the fall and rebroadcast in the UK some time after that and eventually will be available on British DVD.
