Re: Glee -- 2 Hour episode -- "Props/Nationals" -- 5/15/12
In light of today's upfront presentation with FOX and several of their announcements in regards to "Glee" - it should be interesting to see if there are any promos/hints at the fourth season this week and next. You'd think they would want to tell viewers what to expect in a last ditch effort to keep some of the haters tuning in...
With that said I'm really excited for tonight, I didn't even realize the finale was next week - because this feels like the real finale as after 3 years the main kids will be going to nationals as seniors...

Wow, for a brief fleeting moment the writers actually showed us they were earning their paycheck.
The 'Freaky Friday' Tina/Rachel scenes where all of the actors were playing different characters was fun and unexpected. Too bad it only lasted for 15 minutes before they went back to the truly lame Coach Bieste domestic violence storyline that just doesnt belong on this show.
I love the fact that they are giving the Coach Bieste actress (Dot Marie Jones) a chance to truly have her moment in the sun. She has such a unique masculine/feminine physical presence and its nice to see her get her shot at being the star of the show singing and doing dramatic scenes when no one else in Hollywood would have the balls to cast her as anything but some scary butch lesbian stereotype.
But the entire storyline is so unbelievable and so far removed from glee club show choir that none of it matters. You just want to skip past it like so much of their other 'B' storylines.
However nothing dragged this episode down more than the sellout casting of has-been Lindsay Lohan and has-been Perez Hilton (who looked as if he had two lap-band surgeries too many). Having Lloyd from Entourage there next to them just looked sad.
In what universe does this show exist that 'nobody' housewife Nene Leakes gets to play a character on the show but professional actress Lindsay Lohan has to play herself???

I've pretty much already decided I won't be watching next season, but if Unique becomes a regular, that seals the deal--I definitely won't be watching.

These two hours pretty much summed up this season for me - the first hour was mostly dreadful. Terrible storyline with Bieste - more Murphy soapboxing that I am sick of and bland songs that most 'high schoolers' would never have even heard of. The second episode was leap years better, with a better pace, better musical numbers and some good lines... but New Directions win with arguably their weakest showing at one of these competitions in the entire series - kind of weak. It's like two steps forward, 1.5 steps back every week. Not sure if I'll be sticking with it or not - but I totally agree with Cellar Door's comment - Unique is horrible.

I thought this was the season finale. Shocked that there is 1 more episode next week.
I could of used more of the kids switching places. I laughed at the Jesus character playing Chang and the way he kept moving/dancing like it was a twitch.
Sadly, I think they Unique will be joining New Directions next year after his/her comment about transferring schools.
Coach Bieste should of killed Cooter.
over Emma
Glad to see the New Directions finally win, but I agree, the performance was pretty weak. It was nice for them to get the hallway celebration instead of the slushie. I'm sure they'll start next season with somebody getting slushied and Sue being mean to the choir kids.
This could of served as a Series Finale.

can someone tell me what happened the last 7 minutes of the show my DVR ran out of space
Last thing I saw was - Shoe coming home and Emma getting ready to give him some lovin', then Finn and Rachel getting $5 and the principal telling them they have to perform... what happened next
And - Yes - I agree that the New Directions winning last night just didn't "feel" right.. It was not the best performance, dancing, or song choice.. yet they came in #1

Figgins asked New Directions to perform at the school's annual awards ceremony. Finchel presented Teacher of the Year to Mr. Schue (a real WTF moment). They then sang "We Are the Champions" by Queen and lots of hugging ensued.

I hope they introduce a non stereotypically gay character soon. Someone who happens to like guys, but also likes football and porno and books about war.

I honestly thought they were going to pull a Newhart/Dallas thing when the hockey players threw the confetti instead of the slushie. Was waiting for somebody to wake up and be sitting at what's-her-faces' funeral (the texting cheerleader). Oh well...

Glad to see the New Directions finally take Nationals though it did feel light after a three year wait. I thought Lohan had some funny lines. The walk down the hallway was sweet. I didn't really care for the whole character switchover at the start and was grateful it was short. Giving Unique the MVP was a cheap way to build up characters for next season and diminish the current crowd, notably Rachel. If next season does make Tina the main vocalist of New Directions, they are in trouble. I like the character but she's too bland to be center of attention no matter who they surround her with. I was surprised to learn at the end that there's one more episode. Hopefully they keep following some of the more notable characters as they follow their dream outside of Lima besides the new kids of the group.

I am for that.
Dread guy is kinda sexy in a dirty hair sort of Bad boy type way.
Loved Monique's dance with Vocal Adrenaline. Better than New Directions.

I thought this was the finale as well. There were some moments, but yeah, the winning performance was a little weak (mostly just trading solos instead of real ensemble work) and the Unique character is terrible (not really a character, from what I remember on the Glee Project). I hated the idea of Lohan appearing, but it was kind of funny.
Blaine would be the obvious choice as next year's lead vocalist. Maybe they can get by without a female lead.
I wonder how much of the Starlight Express routine they had to choreograph, rehearse, and film for that 10-second glimpse?
(Speaking as someone who's had to endure the show multiple times in the theater.)

you know, when I was in glee club in Jr. High (and yes we also went to Chicago - deja vu), it was all about the vocals, none of this over the top dancing and crap. The dancing at the Nationals was too extreme and completely unrealistic - a singer like Unique would never hog the limelight like he/she did.

Re: Glee -- 2 Hour episode -- "Props/Nationals" -- 5/15/12
This most definitely felt like a Season Finale (hell it felt a lot like a SERIES FINALE), but the writers stated that they wanted to wrap up Nationals in episode 21, so episode 22 can focus soley on the Wedding and Graduation - especially since the show will be saying goodbye to a lot of characters next week.
Personally I thought the Unique storyline was unique - but it was better played as a one-off moment and I sincerely hope that he doesn't become a regular in season 4 - that would be too overkill. Maybe next season they can actually start giving Tina, Irish and Sam some lines instead of just paying them to be in the background all the time.
Also, since when is Mercedes a senior? I always thought she was a year younger than the core-3?

But at a jr. high level, I could see not having the big-time solo and dance talent. (Heck, it wasn't there at my high school either, but anyway....). Still, I prefer the group vocals like in their Don't Stop Believing that got me hooked on the show.I saw the original run in London, and the skating track went over and around the audience. I got a standing-room ticket for two pounds and actually leaned against the track as the skaters were zooming past, which was cool. Years later, I saw the U.S. tour without the cold war references and with the skating restricted to the standard stage and thought it was mediocre. Then I went on a group tour to London, and they all voted to see... Starlight Express
. I actually like a number of ALW shows, but there's only one good song in this one, and the lyrics are sometimes funny but mostly idiotic.

(Excuse geeky Broadway moment for me and Giles)

THREAD DIGRESSION:
in regards to Starlight, the obvious highlight of the production is how the skating is done and the stage itself
here's London's:

double tiered, extending the racing stages to go behind the orchestra audience, the main center 'U' has audience sitting in the middle (guard rails come up during the races)
here's the German production:

the video here is from the New York Broadway version, again it's double tiered but is stage bound:
http://youtu.be/86ZO0gPNpXs (go to 2:09 when the race actual begins and all the lights and stage mechanics go ballistic)
the touring version that I also saw at the Kennedy Center - had the 'U' extension, but all the races were pre-recorded projected video.
and you thought 'Spiderman: Turn off the Dark' was a nightmare to stage - this was an entirely different beast.

I'm considering having these be the last two eps of Glee I ever watch. I'm fine with how they ended. Don't need a season finale.

That whole Tina "unappreciated, never given a chance" thing might have rang a little more true if she and Mike Chang hadn't been the MVPs at sectionals. It seems like they forgot that.
