At least the plot seems to be going somewhere

Re: The Killing -- "Off the Reservation" -- 5/13/12

Well, today I burned through every episode of the season. Nothing on the show has changed from the first season; just one red herring after another and each week sees the characters do totally illogical things.

The only good thing that came from this episode was Linden sending (finally) sending her kid away and Holder being back on his feet. The acting is still pretty good though, especially from Stan and Holder; they're the only characters I ever really cared about anyway. It was heartbreaking watching that lady talking to Stan in the diner.

At this point, I just want them to reveal the killer's identity and call it a day.

I'm one of the few (maybe the only one) that still enjoys this show. I agree there have been some leaps of logic in the writing, but I'm still interested in finding out who the killer is.

I thought Holder was going to be found dead. I knew right away what that woman meeting with Stand was going to be. That's got to suck when you've lost a child and then someone does that.

Spoiler:
Total guess here, but the way this episode played out made me think the Mayor killed Rosie up on the 10th floor of the casino and Chief Jackson helped cover it up. The Chief has definitely been throwing her weight around.

I still watch the show and think it's okay, even though I agree and think the structure is idiotic.

I also hate this season how the story pivoted off of Stan's relationship with the mob. This possibility had already been raised and dismissed in season 1. It just felt lazy to me that there was such an obvious connection to Stan's past that they ignored in season 1 in favor of more lame red herrings. Of course, it looks like the whole thing with Stan and the mob ended up being just another red herring anyway.

I don't know if I will watch this episode or not. Kind of want to see what happens to Holder, and I must be alone thinking that the political storyline is the best one at this point.

That wouldn't make sense considering the first episode of the series.

Like how Holder is out of the hospital in a matter of hours after being beaten half to death?

Yet that's still more believable than Darren Richmond being able to wheel himself out of the hospital in 4 days or so - after a gunshot wound did enough damage to paralyze him below the waist.

Re: The Killing -- "Off the Reservation" -- 5/13/12

I actually really enjoyed the last couple of episodes. Yes, there are a shit-load of plot holes, but the performances are consistently stellar (and in Campbell's case, better and better each ep.) -- some of the best on TV, IMO -- and despite the annoying frequency of red herrings, I feel like the story is actually going somewhere. Pacing has picked up with Mitch (such a drag) being MIA the past two eps. and with Linden's kid finally out of the picture. It's the first time in about a dozen episodes dating back to last season that I can't wait for the next installment.

I don't get how there are no repercussions for the Indians beating the hell out of a detective. I understand that it's "tribal land", but still.

I didn't get that whole sequence. Linden went in and told the chief she wanted to go in and find Holder. Chief said no way, get out of my office. Next scene, we see Linden on the island followed by the chief and a bunch of cops.

I admit I could have fallen asleep but I don't think so!

That's the difference between this and a good show (like The Wire). In this show, the higher ups behave in a frustrating way but it's completely random to suit the plot. In a good show, the higher ups behave in a frustrating way but we (the audience) understand their motivations and it's all part of the story.

Oh and then AFTER Linden, the Chief, and the cops find and rescue Holder, the NEXT scene is them cleaning out Linden's office and the chief demanding her badge. Huh? What? Didn't she just SAVE a police officer?

Linden threatened to call Internal Affairs so the chief knew he needed to do something to save Holder. Once Holder was safe he got rid of Linden because she went to the casino when she was told not to, which is what caused Holder to get beat up in the first place.

Re: The Killing -- "Off the Reservation" -- 5/13/12

Anyone else find it weird that Linden seems to be a chicken-shit in many situations?

Maybe I can forgive her being somewhat afraid of the Indians at the tribal land - as there were many of them and they don't fuck around. But I remember a scene in S1 when she saw Richmonds' computer and thought he was the killer - she rushed out of his apartment in fear for her life. Then afraid of Holder when she thought he was a bad cop, and even when it was obvious someone visited her apartment. Her reactions really feel like they're coming from a helpless lady instead of a veteran cop/detective with a gun.
