Ugly people write songs. Pretty people sing them.

I fricking loved Joshua Ledet's rendition of that Bee Gees song. That was an "Idol moment" IMO, he deserves to make it to the final 2 based on that performance alone. Ahhhh shucks, sucks about Skylar. I wasn't a big fan of her at the start, but what won me over was how much confidance and swagger she had on stage in recent weeks. She's going to be fine after the show. I think she's a lock to get a record deal. Nice to see Carrie Underwood again. I just bought her new album Blown Away and it's great. I really like how loyal she is to the show and whenever they have asked her to come back, she does come. |

There is no way Hollie should still be in this competition. Maybe this is why:
Jennifer Lopez to Hollie: "Since last year we have always believed in you and we have been trying to help you fight through this every single step of the way. You belong here." |

They say that to all the top 40 contestants who get the boot on the next cut. :)

Jennifer Lopez to Hollie: I'm constantly amused that people think their taste must be shared by everyone else. Here's the simple fact. No matter how much anyone dislikes Hollie (compared to the rest of the contestants), more people voted for her than Skylar. It's that simple. There's no need to create conspiracy theories. Case in point... I don't vote, but if I did, I'd vote for Hollie over Skylar. And Jennifer Lopez has nothing to do with why. |

Are you implying AI is somehow fixing the competition?

Simon may have even been making more than $20MM/season. But he did care about the "street cred" of the show. The ratings have dropped a lot from the heyday. I think Simon felt if the winners weren't successful, it'd lessen the sparkle of the show. It's one of the reasons he was exasperated with Taylor Hicks winning. He knew Taylor had zero chance of being a successful recording artist. On the other hand, he was a Carrie Underwood fan from go. He was WAY stronger on her than I was and he was right.
I think at least part of the decline with AI is people just don't feel they're watching the discovery of the next recording star. I was watching a commercial the other day with Jordin Sparks and it occurs to me she doesn't often get mentioned amongst the successful AI winners. But her recording career has done OK and she's starring in the upcoming movie Sparkle (Whitney Houston's last movie). These successes (Jennifer Hudson, etc.) do contribute to the star quality of the show. |
