Re: Magic City -- "Castles Made of Sand" -- 4/20/12

It's only 3 episodes in, but I'm loving this show so far. They have really done a great job capturing the essence of the late 1950's. The angle with Ike trying to bribe that Tallahasse Senator to support gambling at his hotel was interesting. That guy was an ass though.

at Stevie. He must have a death wish continuing to bang Diamond's wife. I had to laugh when he almost pissed in his pants when he thought Diamond knew about the affair. But then again it seems like Lily is turning to Stevie for help to try to get out of this relationship.

Who wants to bet that Mike's wife will eventually blame Ike for the murder of her husband? Although he didn't sanction the hit, I'm guessing that Ike felt guilty for his disappearance, which he probably put together was tied into the Union all of the sudden dropping the protest of his hotel. With his body popping up, that seems to be a key plot for the remainder of this season.

I like the introduction of Kelly Lynch as a potential investor in the hotel. Plus, it seems like she has a past with Ike besides her being his former sister in law.

Olga Kurylenko is hot without a doubt, but I'm concerned that she could end up being another Betty Draper. They haven't given her character much substance other than being a hot young trophy wife for Ike.

Oh and I just wanted to make a minor correction. Season 1 is only 8 episodes. Season 2 will be 10 episodes.

BTW, I read the creator of this series was originally developing this show for CBS. CBS allowed him to pitch it to Starz, who bought it. Thank God CBS passed on it.

I had absolutely no idea this was on. I'll have to see if I can find a channel in Canada that carries it. I would assume that TMN would, like with some other Starz shows, but I don't think that I've seen it listed, although I could have missed it.

I've had a crush on Olga Kurylenko since Hitman.

Though I doubt it, Mike's wife could have totally played Ike and poisoned him with the food she baked for him. Sounds like it would have been simple enough for her to get a job in the kitchen and if she wanted to kill Ike for her husband's death, that's not a bad way to go about doing it.
