Re: Mad Men -- "Mystery Date" -- 4/08/12

I liked this episode too. Don's hallucination scene was a bit unexpected. At first I wasn't sure if Andrea had really come to him or not, but the scene with her coming back in the room and him choking her made it obvious right away to me that it wasn't real.

I also liked Peggy in this episode, both in the scene with her playing ball with Roger and the scenes with Dawn. I realized that she was unsure about leaving her purse but didn't want to take it and make herself look like a racist .

The new guy (can't recall his name) had some good moments in this episode as well. I wasn't sure if I'd like his character at first but he seems pretty likable to me at least. Won't miss Joan's husband (Greg) at all.

The only thing I noticed after it was over: No Lane! He's a favorite, but you can't have everyone all the time.

Yeah, AMC made sure of that.

Peggy could have probably paid her rent with that for about 7 months.

Excellent episode.

The theme was definitely of women in fear of being in danger.

A survivor of Speck hid under the bed, and we see Sally sleeping under the couch and Don's hallucination of strangling a woman and hiding her under the bed. Also the tie-in of Speck raping women and Joan finally coming out and alluding to being raped by Greg in a past episode.
Ginsberg also describing the ad that puts Cinderalla in danger. Of course Dawn and Peggy being afraid in the evening. Even Megan's afraid, not of a serial killer but of Don's potential infidelity.
Even Stan looked like a threat wearing the pantyhose over his head.

The exchange between Peggy and Roger was great.

Great, great episode. It seemed pretty clear to me that at least the second (if not the first) visit in Don's apartment was a hallucination.

Peggy playing hardball with Roger may be the best scene she's ever been in.

She was just on "In Plain Sight" and looked even better.

I was hoping Joan's husband would come home and "his" baby would have silver hair.

BTW, I'm surprised at what a good little actress the girl who plays Sally is turning into - her expression at her step-mother-in-law's story about being kicked was perfect.

Wasn't Sally passed out under the couch and not just sleeping?

Yeah, the half-pill she took did something to knock her out... whether it made her pass out or worked as a sleeping pill - we may find out later.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it was an hallucination right from the start - I don't think Andrea ever dropped by that evening.

I also loved the brilliant call back of the accordion player coming over at an awkward moment between Greg and his parents. Too bad Joan's mom sort of ruined any subtlety in the scene by reminding us "Joan can play the accordion". I'm glad she's done with Greg, though this conclusion denies us fans the highly anticipated death in Vietnam we've been patiently waiting for for a few years now.

I figured we will get that in a few weeks, a divorce takes a while and he will be Charlie fodder before it is finalized and put light on paternaty (possibly).

Whoa...I though Don Draper was going all American Horror Story there for a second.

What an episode. The Peggy & Roger scene was greatness. "The work is $10. The lie will cost you!"

I thought Peggy wanted Dawn to pick up the beer bottles during their "awkward" scene. I didn't notice the purse/money until after Peggy read the note.

Had a nice "Holy Shit" moment when Don had to choke a bitch.

I hope Sally doesn't develop a drug problem.

Remember her sneaking booze and getting drunk at Don's office party? The groundwork has been laid.

She has been great the whole series. Of course most of the time she's with Betty, so it's easier to show off.

I thought that whole restaurant scene was hilarious. I'm really liking Sally's Step-Grandma, too. Great episode.

If nothing else, we need more Peggy/Roger scenes. That was one of the best of the series, IMHO.

Also, more POV shots of Joan leaning into ovens.

The one-on-one scenes and conversations in this show are always so strong - whether it's Peggy/Roger or Peggy and the secretary or Joan and Dickhead or Sally and her step-grandmother, etc.

I thought the "awkward" scene was because of the cigarette butts in the ashtray, and Peggy doesn't smoke.

What did the note say? It came and went too quick for me.

I knew it couldn't be that, due to Peggy refusing to give in to that lesbian who came in that day with the Speck murder victims pictures. Nice try!
