What type of show gets priority viewing from you on any given night?

Just as my question states,

What type of show do you make it a point to watch ASAP or night of on any given night?

First priority is the show that's most likely to be spoiled by someone else

Sports.

When it comes to specific television shows, there aren't many I catch regularly. I'd probably go with the reality shows I watch--Survivor and The Amazing Race.

Different mood each night. DVRs are magnificent!

Re: What type of show gets priority viewing from you on any given night?

For me, it's 2 different ones.

Competition-based shows I make it a point to watch night of or a couple of days max since the results are so easily spoiled on the Internet.

2nd, would be shows that Internet boards go Ape shit crazy about like The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones or The Killing.

Just my opinion, but I notice that most people in this board seem to prioritize 30 minute comedies and casually watch dramas over the course of a week or 2.

Agree with sports. It's the only thing I watch live anymore.

After that, 30 minute comedies. For the most part I can just watch and enjoy and don't have to do a whole lot of thinking. Everything else gets viewed when I have more free time, usually Friday evening or Saturday afternoon. And for certain dramas I like to bang out 2 or 3 ep marathons.

For the record, if your answer is "Sports", you can answer "Competition-based" shows on my poll.

Live Sports trumps everything else because everything else is 90% likely of being DVR'd.

I picked sports (competition-based). Most everything else can be viewed either online or you can record it.

Re: What type of show gets priority viewing from you on any given night?

Sports is about the only thing I watch as it airs anymore.

After that, it depends on my mood and how much time I have.

I don't own a DVR so I'll go with 30 minute comedies like tonight. Normally, I would say sports but I haven't really watched anything since the Super Bowl.

Re: What type of show gets priority viewing from you on any given night?

Live sports (MNF, college hoops, playoff NHL) easily trump all, although depending on the circumstances, I can have it on the 2nd TV while watching things off the DVR.

Nothing else I really feel the need to watch the same night. Mad Men I try to watch Sunday night but even last week, I only watched the first episode before going to bed. I usually watch South Park the night it airs.

Obviously the earlier the show is in the evening, the more likely I watch it the same evening, particularly if I'm caught up on everything else.

Re: What type of show gets priority viewing from you on any given night?

1. Sports truimphs everything especially since the advent of DVR.

2. There are certain shows that I really want to watch the night they premiere, because I hate waiting a few days when I have time from DVR'ing them: Homeland and Game of Thrones are a must watch for me on Sunday night. Plus, I like to watch these shows so I can talk about them on Monday in work with people who've seen the episodes.

This - for me Mad Men, South Park, then FX shows.

Comedies are about it for us
Detest reality shows like Jersey Shore
Follow(ed) a few hour long shows: NCIS cause the family is hooked on it. Chuck when it was on.
Don't have HBO but have collected BoB and The Pacific
Don't follow but won't leave if the wife is watching Biggest Loser or DWTS which are the only competition shows she'll occasionally watch

Re: What type of show gets priority viewing from you on any given night?

Looks like comedies might be the winner here.

I get it. If it's not a Friday or Saturday it's alot easier to watch 2-4 comedies a night without staying up too late, especially if you have to work in the morning the next day.

If there are 4-6 new episodes of a 1 hour dramas in 1 night, I'm guessing for most of you it's really only feasible to watch maybe 1-2 at most right the night of?

I don't watch TV every night, but serial dramas are always the best. What's a mythology driven show? Lost or something?

Serial dramas / Mythology-driven shows

Simply because these tend to be water cooler shows and it's very hard to avoid spoilers, especially with Twitter and Facebook in the mix. "I can't believe that Dumbledore drowned Arya!"

The Vampire Diaries

Once Upon a Time

Fringe

Grimm (although it's mostly procedural)

Game of Thrones

Supernatural

The Killing is sort of mythology-driven since it centers on 1 main plot point that covers multiple episodes.

The Walking Dead

Nikita

Spartacus

Comedies for me. I like to eat and watch TV, so they fit almost perfectly into my eating window. It also seems like I have less TV time these days, so I can finish a comedy episode rather quickly.

Fer-shizzle, my best TV memories, so to speak, involved discussing The Sopranos with my fellow coworkers on Monday mornings.

Ah ok, I like mythology shows too. Lost is my favorite that I've seen just cause it's mythology I find the most intriguing.

Comic Book Men when it was on the air on Sundays

30 Rock and Parks & Recreation on Thurs. I tape it and watch it on the same day.

I watch SNL live or maybe on a 15 minute delay on my DVR if I am busy.

All things being equal in terms of time and if the wife isn't home it's serial dramas. With the wife it's half hour comedy.
