Re: Doctor Who: Series 7 (Fall 2012)
Welp, this season is crashing and burning hard for me. Thought that TARDIS episode was all kinds of wrong. Storytelling, tone, characters... all wrong.
Are there longer versions of the BBC America "Doctor Revisited" episodes anywhere? The 30-40 minute recap of a doctor before running one of the serials just isn't good enough, ESPECIALLY when it came to the Tom Baker retrospective they ran on Saturday. |
Re: Doctor Who: Series 7 (Fall 2012)
Liking Clara, but a lot of these feel very blah. Small cool moments, but none of the episodes as a whole are memorable.
I don't think splitting the series or switching up companions in the middle helped. Wouldn't mind seeing Moffat step down and let somebody else lead Smith for 1 or 2 series. |
Re: Doctor Who: Series 7 (Fall 2012)
Lately, I spend half the time just trying to understand what the heck is going on in an episode. Hard to enjoy when it's hard to figure out. I also hate it when the Tardis is the enemy or problem. I love that it is small on the outside and big on the inside, beyond that I'd rather it just be a spaceship and not one that can be jealous, etc. So far, I've hated every episode with the new companion though I really do like Clara. Too much mystery around her. And the Doctor is really feeling creepy to me this season. Since most of his companions seem to meet terrible fates he should become more resistant to having them. I'm losing faith that they're going to make this season feel worth while.

I think this half-season has been fine. No, the episodes aren't setting the world on fire but they've entertained me enough.

I also second the above post about not following what was going on this past episode. When its too confusing I check out and I checked out fairly early with this one. |

Yup, should have kept the Pond's around the whole season. The first half suffered cause they couldn't build a story for them. And now they're doing a horrible job building a storyline for Clara. They have an underlining story withe The Doctor trying to figure out what she is, they're just not giving us the clues to play along.
I think I would have preferred it if Amy and Rory weren't in Asylum of the Daleks, just the Doctor alone (and Oswin), then do the other four with random companions like "Dinosaurs on a Spaceship," then go into "The Snowmen" and continue from there. |

Amy and Rory should have been left alone at the end of Smith's second season when the Doctor left them behind to live out their lives. The first half of this season was a disjointed mess, with the Doctor being shoe-horned back into their lives for five episodes after he had already left them, for the sole purpose of fucking them over with the Angels.

I'm also starting to worry that the 50th special won't be...well very special. I've found Matt Smith, and most of the Who production crew talk a bit game, but don't follow up. I'm sure it's an industry practice, but they tend to fawn over every episode and Moffat too. "It's brilliant.", "A real crack.", "They are amazing." Then you watch the episode, and well it's all rather flat. |

Are they still playing this
<iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/EcFo1wCZVaI" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> 3-4 times in an episode still? Drives me nuts. Damn crutch is what it is. |

Yeah, these Revisited things have been really disappointing. Can't believe they never mentioned Romana. She was his companion for three seasons, a Time Lord, and regenerated into a different actress. They also left out the Doctor's battles with The Master and the Key to Time saga with the Black Guardian that spanned a whole season.
And they didn't even mention Harry. I know he wasn't along for too many episodes, but I love that guy. |
Re: Doctor Who: Series 7 (Fall 2012)
From a ratings perspective, the change in companion has had no effect on the US ratings. Here are the 9pm overnight ratings averages for S7.1 (the last five Amy & Rory episodes) and the first five episodes of S7.2 (the first five non-Christmas episodes with "modern Clara"):
S7.1 (5 episodes) - 1.13 million / 0.44 18-49 demo S7.2 (5 episodes) - 1.11 million / 0.46 18-49 demo The final UK ratings for the most recent episode aren't out yet, but based on the UK overnights, the final rating will probably be similar to the previous episode's final rating. Based on that, here is the same S7.1/7.2 comparison with the UK final ratings: S7.1 (5 episodes) - 7.96 million S7.2 (5 episodes) - 7.30 million |
Re: Doctor Who: Series 7 (Fall 2012)
I have to agree that the episodes are not blowing me away, but they are entertaining. I really enjoyed the Journey to the Center episode this week.

Re: Doctor Who: Series 7 (Fall 2012)
Add another episode to the heap of blah. I don't buy for a second that the Doctor would allow him and Clara to get in so deep. At least I enjoyed the Strax parts.
Also something super odd with the nanny kids tracking down old pictures. It came off as a convenient plot device and forced. At least it should get her to ask the Doctor why. |

I also would not be worried about anyone telling another that I was a time traveler. |
Re: Doctor Who: Series 7 (Fall 2012)
Loved 2 weeks ago, absolutely hated last week, and enjoyed this week. I think I like every episode with lizard lady and her partner though so it was no surprise that I liked this one.
I'm still not picking up on the season long arc. Is it Clara? |
Re: Doctor Who: Series 7 (Fall 2012)
I thought this episode was pretty great until the Doctor showed up and started kissing everyone. I don't understand where they're taking this character, at all.
And yes, all kids Google image search their nanny. Always. Duh. |
Re: Doctor Who: Series 7 (Fall 2012)
Regarding the kids searching for images of Clara, one of them mentioned that they came across the first one while doing a school project, which presumably prompted them to search for more. It still felt a bit contrived, mostly because I couldn't figure out who took the photos and when (and wouldn't a photo from a Russian sub still be classified?).

The photos felt very contrived. Didn't care for the episode much which is rare for me.

Re: Doctor Who: Series 7 (Fall 2012)
the little girl that clara nannys for, is an annoying little rude twat and i hope they go in a dark direction and airlock her at some point soon. really make kids hide behind couches seeing that. "talk to an adult like that, we push you out into space."
no idea what dr was talking about at end, Clara in a tight skirt? i think it may be a clue he is experiencing a slightly different Clara than we see. Perhaps a punk rock tight skirted slutty one. god willing. i cannot believe it is season finale next week. |
Re: Doctor Who: Series 7 (Fall 2012)
Warning to all who don't want to be spoiled:
BBC America has shipped the pre-orders for Series 7 Part 2. It wasn't supposed to be released until May 28th. Someone on the Gally board has it and has watched "The Name of the Doctor" already. More shipments are set to arrive this week. The finale is out and about. Gallifrey Base is currently imploding. It's only a matter of time before true spoilers and the actual episode escapes onto the web. If you don't want to be spoiled, watch out. |

I dont mind being spoiled but I respect that there are many more who want to be unspoiled. |

Damn, I'd love to see that right now.
