He could be a one and done like Eccleston. I suspected an older Doctor, but not one that could get a 10% discount at Denny's (I kid, I kid). The confusion with John Hurt was bad enough...

Why is everyone talking about 55 like the average 55 year old is a Great War veteran with a walker and an ear trumpet? It's not that old. Liam Neeson was 55 when he made Taken.

Don't really care who or how old The Doctor is. I'm just dreading them bringing in older companions so the age difference isn't that striking.

Because he is old compared to Matt Smith who did the role for 4 years and old compared to Tennant. It's not that he looks bad for his age, but he twice (plus some!) as old as Smith. It's not to far-fetched to think some fans of the New Who won't approve. I've hardly seen any of the older Who and I'm not looking forward to watching a 55 year old battle Daleks.

But eh. I'll watch it anyway as long as we don't get any stories about finding his missing cane.

Smith is 30, Capaldi is 55. And a lot of people are forgetting that Alex Kingston, the Doctor's love interest, is 50.

Quite frankly, I don't give a shit what the "NuWho" fans think. I'd rather have the show cancelled than continue to cater to the OCD Twilight crowd. :shrug:

They can still bring in younger companions. It was not uncommon for the Doctor to be more of a father figure than a romantic one in the original series. Plenty of young companions back then.

Yeah. I bailed on the show after last season, but I'm willing to come back and check out the first episodes of the new Doctor to see if Moffat is doing anything interesting.

I've yet to watch the last season since I lost BBCA. I was about to watch the first half on Amazon Prime. Is it really that bad?

I enjoyed it. I do think the season got hurt by being split into two "mini" seasons though, especially since they crammed an arc into each half. It didn't really give the show room to breathe, and just as the show was getting into a groove, it stopped for a few months.

My wife and I watched S7E13, 'The Name of the Doctor', last night.
(Hey, it takes me a while to catch up on stuff sometimes. And what could be more meta than a nine year old necro on a show about time travel.)
GREAT episode. Some of the eps of these season weren't all that special, but this one was really really good. (And yes, the girl Clara nannies for was really annoying in 'Nightmare in Silver'. I was hoping this wasn't the show's bring-in-a-kid jump-the-shark moment). It was a little odd that the big bad was really only in one other episode (I think), but I guess the point was more regarding The Impossible Girl. I really liked Strax, Jenny, and Vastra. Clara's growing on me but I'm not really a huge fan. I guess also I really really liked Amy and Rory.

We grew to like Matt Smith but are ready for a new Doctor. (After the ep, and after I told my wife who the next full-season Doctor was, I pulled up a clip of him in The Suicide Squad just for comparison.)

Anyway - so - that thing at the end - "Introducing XXXX XXXX as the Doctor" -
What do we watch next, to see that story and that 'Doctor' who doesn't use the name?

Should we watch "50th Anniversary Special, the Day of the Doctor', and "Christmas Special 2013, the Time of the Doctor" next, before going on to Season 8 Episode 1, 'Deep Breath'?
I thought I saw something about 'The Night of the Doctor', what is that, and is it available to be watched?
