When did you stop watching The Simpsons?

I thought about posting this in the Simpsons 500 episode thread, but thought better about thread crapping. God bless you if you still like that slop. While Christmas shopping I realized that season 14 of the show was already what I considered pretty damn poor. Amazingly I stuck with the show through mid-way their 20th season. I realized that I've only seen maybe one episode in HD.

So when did you stop watching? When do you think it started to suck?

Re: When did you stop watching The Simpsons?

Never started. -ptth- I have only seen some of the Halloween ones. I had always planned to watch it but for some reason or another I just never did. I even had a Bart Simpson t-shirt before the series was even popular 20+ years ago or so.

Halfway through season 2.

Stopped watching consistently when I went off to college. Syndication provides me with enough new stuff to satisfy my background noise needs.

Re: When did you stop watching The Simpsons?

It was after they went to china that I stopped watching on a weekly basis (I think that was season 12 or 13) but I would still watch an episode here or an episode there. In college funny enough I tried to pick it back up because of the upcoming movie, but after that first spider-pig episode I gave it up for good.

I stopped when they randomly changed Homer's voice for no reason.

Season 8 or 9 I think?

It was something like S11 or S12 (it started declining in S9 IMO). I do see a random episode since then now and then.

I didn't realize that. Thought they fired him.

Now I feel bad. :(

Re: When did you stop watching The Simpsons?

Probably right around 2004. Prior to that I would watch the re-runs every day and watched new episodes any time they were on. I just don't really care anymore, not a bad show, just don't care.

I sill watch it but I have 12 shows saved on the DVR and I need to catch up

Season 13 I was tapering off but at some point during Season 14 I was done. I started watching again in the middle of Season 19. I was bored over the summer and ended up watching all the episodes I had missed.

Hadn't missed much.

I still watch prime-Simpsons all the time, though. I can never tire of the old episodes.

Re: When did you stop watching The Simpsons?

Must've been about 12 years ago that I stopped completely.

I saw and loved the movie, and watched about 3 or 4 of the new HD episodes, but only out of curiosity because it had been so long.

If anything from the 1992 to 1997 seasons (can't think of what specific seasons aired during that span) airs in reruns, I watch and enjoy them more than any others from before or since.

Re: When did you stop watching The Simpsons?

This thread makes me sad. :(

I used to be one of those obsessive Simpsons fans. I watched it all the time, new episodes and old. Before the DVDs came out, I had a massive chunk of the series already recorded on VHS tapes that I watched a bunch. I still sort of watch the show. I don't have a series recording for it, but if I think about it and don't have any conflicts, I still record the new eps. If you had told the version of me in college that there would come a day that The Simpsons wasn't at the top of my TV show priority list, I would have laughed in disbelief at you. It's sad how far the show has slid from its glory days.

Re: When did you stop watching The Simpsons?

There was a brilliant Moe centered episode about 2-3 years back, I considered it a perfect episode. The one after it was a tired Homer or Bart story told a hundred times before that I found dreadful. So I stopped there cuz it was close to a enough to high note that I didn't want to fall backwards any more then it did.

I haven't stopped watching.

Pretty sure that Matthau never did the voice, the voice was Castanella trying to an impersonation of Matthau and it was to rough on his voice, so he adjusted.

And to keep on topic, I haven't watched in 10-15 years.

Actually no idea, but I own the first 8 seasons on DVD and will still catch shows in syndication but don't budget time on Sunday evening to watch the show anymore (and haven't in years).

That is my favorite season. I was watching the Monorail episode when my cat was born and that's how she got the name Bitey.

Looking at the IMDB episode descriptions, it looks like it was sometime in season 15/16. I don't really miss it either. Thought the movie was funny though.

Re: When did you stop watching The Simpsons?

There was a season premiere many years ago where The Who provided guest voices (I think at one point in the episode Springfield was divided in two). That's the episode I realized The Simpsons did nothing more than try to grab any celebrity they could get their hands on to provide voices and added them into the episode (or wrote an entire episode around them) for no other reason than to have them on the show.

I stopped watching on a regular basis after that. In my opinion, the never ending stream of celebrity guest stars were the beginning of the end for The Simpsons.

Sometime around 2000. I've still seen an episode here an there, but if only if there's nothing on. Older reruns will always grab my attention though.

This. I've missed episodes here and there over the years, but I've been a consistent Simpsons viewer for as long as I can remember. If I'm at home on a Sunday night, I'm watching The Simpsons.

For some reason that episode did the same thing to me. I thought it was poorly written and seemed liked a terrible excuse to get The Who on the show. The fact that they plugged their performance throughout the episode with their concert upcoming then making a big deal of missing said performance when the city split in two was idiotic. That wasn't technically the season premiere, this was when the Treehouse of Horror episodes started the seasons. But this was 250 episodes ago (!). Kind of crazy because I remember watching A Tale of Two Springfields when it was first on.

I'm not one of those fans that despise anything past Season 9. I find every season to have it's ups and downs. I am in the "Mike Scully ruined the show" camp, though. That signified the beginning of the end. But then you wonder how fresh it would have stayed if someone else had become showrunner since Al Jean hadn't done much since taking over and he's been with the show since Season 3.

Re: When did you stop watching The Simpsons?

I watched it when it was part of the Tracey Ullman Show. Damn, I was still in high school then  After that I probably only watched the first couple seasons and then just a scattering of episodes here and there. I haven't seen a single episode in maybe 10 years. Glad to see it's still on though. Makes me feel not so old ;)
