Is the first season available anywhere? I have a trial subscription to Huluplus and notice it's not currently offered.

The 1st season is a self contained arc. It isn't mandatory to watch it to jump into season 2.

It's not available for free legal streaming. You can either get the BD/DVD on September 25th or buy the entire season on Amazon Instant Video.
