The one with The Killing Moon wins just because they chose to have an Echo & The Bunnymen song in it. They should have played the halftime show.

Re: Super Bowl XLVI Commercial Discussion Thread

I vote for the Audi vampires, going away. One thing that always irritated me about the Bud Light spots is every year, they're just about telling a joke like they're a stand up comic and that's what they're expected to do. They never feel like they're advertising a product. This Audi spot was so clever because they were clearly advertising a feature of a car (the bright, new headlights) and sold it in a clever, amusing way. Great ad.

You're not the only one that thought that.

I like the sandman dust one too. Didn't like any of the Budweiser commercials, and didn't care much for the Audi one either. Really weak year for commercials.

I didn't even care this year. I had a few cheap laughs, like the Ford comment, but nothing memorable.

You know, I used to play Battleship quite a bit as a kid, and I never knew the other team was supposed to be Aliens.

I loved the one with Leno and Seinfeld. I think that was Acura.

Re: Super Bowl XLVI Commercial Discussion Thread

Not a commercial, but I thought the halftime show was great. Music as just OK, but those dancers/performers really put on a show.

Which reminds me, I forgot the Bridgestone commercials. Football one was a standout, basketball was meh.

MIA gave the camera the finger and I swear I thought she said the word "shit" too.

She did give the finger but didn't say the s word. That audio was prerecorded so it was lip sync.
The end of the word was shhhh. So it was more of "I don't give a shhhhh."

Re: Super Bowl XLVI Commercial Discussion Thread

My problem with the coke polar bears is that it doesn't look like they put any effort into the animation. Those bears (and their surrounding environment) looks like computer technology from the early 90s.

Come on guys, you're Coca-freaking-Cola and this is the Super Bowl! Use some cutting edge computer technology to wow us.

Re: Super Bowl XLVI Commercial Discussion Thread

I have to agree, GoldenJCJ. Obviously the bears' look is intentionally cartoonish, but that bottle fumble sequence was just stale.

I guess the hook there was that they made two versions of each polar bear spot, and so the bears scarf colors were dependent on which team was ahead when the spot ran. Of course that got completely lost when both teams have virtually the same colors.

I'm guessing the lead alien in the movie will say it at the climax after his ship is destroyed. It'll be in subtitles.

Re: Super Bowl XLVI Commercial Discussion Thread

A cookie to anyone who can find me an online copy of the 30 Rock Pizza Hut commercial that ran during the pregame. The one with Liz Lemon in the leotard and hot pink bra. Yes, I have a nerd crush on Tina Fey.

Also, it seems like a lot of people in Internetland don't know that Jerry Seinfeld and Jay Leno are car collectors, and that Leno is infamous for sniping cars from buyers. I've seen a lot of Internet posts on other boards asking why they didn't use Wayne Knight (Newman) instead of Leno or Conan O'Brien instead of Seinfeld.

They sort of are. They're a real band, but there is a strong tongue-in-cheek element to them.
