It's reality TV. Aside from the gold count (and maybe even some of that) you have to throw everything else into the wind.

Bering Sea Gold starts March 13, which is right when Gold Rush ends. Well timed, Discovery.

Re: Gold Rush Alaska / Bering Sea Gold discussion

This show is going nowhere. It's beating out prime time TV shows.

http://deadline.com/2015/03/gold-rus...gs-1201391129/

Discovery’s Gold Rush logged 6.393 million viewers in Live + 3 for its fifth season finale, marking its strongest season wrap-up yet. Long strong with men, the men-and-mines reality series picked up enough women to rank as Friday night’s top program on cable in overall audience, as well as adults 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54. Rush out-delivered all broadcast programs Friday night with men 25-54, besting such shows as ABC’s get-rich reality series Shark Tank, CBS’s cop drama Blue Bloods, NBC’s newsmag Dateline, etc.

Gold Rush’s fifth season average of 5.518 million viewers is its best showing since Season 3. It was the No. 1 unscripted series on cable (excludes sports and talk shows).

I wonder how much money the miners actually make from the show. Did the show bankroll the Hoffmans hilarious South American folly?

I'm guessing they did. No way those guys would have had the cash to start up shop this year if they funded that disaster themselves.

Parker has really stolen the show. We really only turn in to see how he's doing. That being said, having Tony has a normal cast member has been fun too. His team did some amazing work this year getting that dredge disassembled/reassembled.

Re: Gold Rush Alaska / Bering Sea Gold discussion

Well not just that but the economics of Todd's situation were totally off. He owed Freddy 200oz for Monster red. He owed the land owner 200oz, IIRC, plus a piece of the action. he owed Turin half of the business. And he has a crew to pay. All of this took place early in the season and I couldn't help but think of that segment at the end of the movie "Bugsy" where he is making deal after deal for the Flamingo until he's completely overextended. Even with 1300 ounces I can't see how Todd made money.

Parker has every reason to tell Tony to fuck off. A 20% take for doing nothing? Like hell. Let Tony come down and mine that shit himself.

Re: Gold Rush Alaska / Bering Sea Gold discussion

My only issue with Parker's attitude (provided it wasn't all fake for the show) is that he damn well knew that the percentages were going to go up at milestone amounts. He signed the contract...Must be a hard decision for him, especially at that age. He could either stick with Tony's plot and deal with the payouts while being a millionaire after this last season or buy his own land and hope it leads him to even more millions down the line.

Re: Gold Rush Alaska / Bering Sea Gold discussion

So the new season of the Bering Sea Ice thing has started again. I have to admit that i am a sucker for this show as the people on it are mostly such massive fuckups that it could not be scripted. The Irish brothers and their dodgy as shit father are great entertainment. The father constantly conning and stealing from them, the one brother who actually seems to want to work and produce and has some intelligence, whilst the other is just a stooge with what seems an anger issue.

Also nice to see Emily Rydell continuing to royally screw things up, take no accountability and run off crying. It amazes me that after all this time she still manages to find people to work for her and dive...so she doesn't have to. I mean seriously.....in a gold dredging operation, what does she do? The new girls with her seem to already be way better at the job than she ever will be. Her father is mostly absent so far, a shame as that guy is mentally retarded and always made great TV in just seeing how badly he could make things in any given operation.

I wonder what happened to the seriously angry guy from earlier seasons? That guy was dangerous. He will certainly end up in prison, and probably due to murder.

Re: Gold Rush Alaska / Bering Sea Gold discussion

Emily's whole act has to be just that. She couldn't survive on a few grand in gold. Granted, the show probably pays her $10k an episode. How she reacted toward her crew was insanely childish and they were right to walk. But I think it's all an act.

Notice she doesn't ever talk about the opera aspirations any more? She's 26-27 and still going nowhere. If she hasn't gotten started in that world by now she never will since it's not a career known for longevity, and she's working in Alaska, where the environmental exposure alone with damage her vocal chords.

She was asked on a Reddit AMA where the old man was and she said she didn't know, he was off on some adventure.

Re: Gold Rush Alaska / Bering Sea Gold discussion

Just saw a promo for Gold Rush. New season Oct 16.

Only one I'm rooting for is Parker. He acts like a dick once in a while but still better than that jerk Tony. And don't get me started on the king of fail Todd.

Tony's a hard ass but I like him. Parker is good too. Still , the entertainment value of watching the Hoffmans fuck up is unmatched in reality television. I couldn't stop laughing during the South American season.

Re: Gold Rush Alaska / Bering Sea Gold discussion

Yeah Scott. Talk about a hair trigger temper. The fact he also seemed clueless (but like all of them thinks he is an expert), i am surprised he ever managed to continue dredging, let alone find gold.

And the Hoffmans are the biggest screw ups ever. The one season they made a 1000 ounces was only because Discovery had obviously helped them securing the best equipment possible (and probably costing most of what they actually found). With that stuff anyone could find gold.

Just about to watch Fridays episode. Lets see how the idiots are doing this week.

Todd is off to a good start, 30 ounces in a test run. Looks like they are setting up Tony and Minni Beets to be the villains because they tried to dick over Parker.

Re: Gold Rush Alaska / Bering Sea Gold discussion

Just got cable resintalled this weekend and saw a bit of this episode. Tony is an utter prick of a man, and his wife is much the same. Nice to see Parker get one over on them. Todd got 30 ounces, but i always wonder how much money Discovery pumps into their ventures in order to try and make them succeed. Such dumbasses. He is always saying how they are gonna kick ass. They are pure gold......gold numpties!!!!

Well on a treasure hunter's board, where they really know mining and often point out the thing most folks would miss, they said Todd has one of the best locations in the Klondike. How many strings were pulled to get it? Probably a lot. But El Dorado is said to be a great location. And that's coming from people who work up there (and post pictures of their work).

Re: Gold Rush Alaska / Bering Sea Gold discussion

I still see Todd as the villain no matter how much they try to make Tony it this season. Todd is just a cocky bastard that doesn't have a clue what he's doing. The only reason they found as much gold as they did last year and the first cleanout this year is because of Dave. Todd was completely against even doing it until he saw the result and gloated how he knew it'd be great.

I fully expect Parker to blow Todd out of the water in total gold again even with the lack of experience his crew has.

Re: Gold Rush Alaska / Bering Sea Gold discussion

20 years from now Parker will be on his way to being a mining great whereas Todd and his stooges will be wishing they could hook up with the Paddy Wagon brothers on Bering Sea Gold. When Discovery finally pulls the plug on this show Todd and his crew are doomed.

Re: Gold Rush Alaska / Bering Sea Gold discussion

Todd's crew is good (well, maybe not that guy who drove the excavator over ice. wtf?!), so I think they could be successful with Dave running the show. Todd is the one that doesn't really add anything, and if he and his father were suddenly not on the show, it wouldn't hurt it much. Then again, there are probably people who watch it just to see what boneheaded things he does.

There was no mention of them on the premier, so they may not be on the show, but I'd like to see the Dodge's operation this year. They were doing some cool stuff in that valley and I'd like to see how well it goes.

I dont know if hes just getting a shitty edit or what. But it certainly seems like Tony is being a dick just for the sake of being a dick. Parker said hes given him nearly a million dollars in royalties. Hes more than proved himself. Why was Tony so against giving him some new ground to work? It was nice to see Parker finally have some leverage over him.

There is no way the claim owner would have leased prime land to those muppets without Discovery Channels intervention.

Re: Gold Rush Alaska / Bering Sea Gold discussion

I am sure that part of it is the producers making him out to be the villain. This show seems to always conveniently give them obstacles to climb over in order to succeed. Sure the Hoffmans don't need any help with finding problems as they are so clueless. Not sure why Dave has hung on with them for so long. He seems like the only person to have half an idea as to what to do.

Getting back to Tony though, i get the feeling he is genuinely a prick in real life and his wife always has a face like a bulldog licking piss of a nettle. All they give a crap about is the cash and they are more then willing to screw over anyone to get it. And i don't think thats created by the show.

I think the Dodge bros got smart quick and realized they wanted nothing to do with the show.

Man... when Parker finally loses his grandpa that kid is going to lose his shit. I'm a little jealous. Both of my grandfathers were dead before I was born. i had no connection like that.

John Schnabel died today. Poor Parker. He knew this was coming but it still has to suck given how close he was to grandpa.
