Re: What were your biggest series finale's
I remember seeing on Youtube a clip from the Finale of a short lived show I never watched. It was just a regular episode about racing someone to the airport but then at the very end when you think they made it the guy comes walking back over to the rest of the cast who were seeing him off & someone asks "Did you miss the plane?" and he says "No the shows been cancelled". Then they all turn to the camera & wave goodbye. Anybody know what this was?

The finales I remember from shows I watched during broadcast:
MASH--the event of events
Seinfeld--terrible
Cheers (did Frasier have a series finale? I stopped watching when it kept shifting nights--pre-DVR days)
X-Files
Dawson's Creek--very satisfying ending
Battlestar Galactica
ER
Lost
Smallville
Chuck

Re: What were your biggest series finale's
I was just thinking about this myself over the weekend. I think the biggies for me are:
- Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Dawson's Creek. It was so odd that the first two television shows I ever watched from pilot to finale ended up both ending within a week of each other. I remember being 15 and sitting in the basement with my older sister both of us tearing up durring both of the episodes. We both busted into tears when Giles said "The earth is definitely doomed" one last time.
- Six Feet Under. I was living in a hotel room at the time as my parents house was being remodeled and two of my friends had shown up early to get ready for a party that night, neither of them had seen more than 5 minutes of the show before. But those final 10 minutes still brings me to shivers - nobody spoke durring the entire thing.
- Queer as Folk. Very underrated show and I still miss those characters.

Sports Night for me. For the simple fact that I didn't know it was a series finale at the time and it just left everything hanging. I still harbor a fire of hatred in a deep corner of my heart for ABC because of it.
I'd skipped the last 2 seasons of ER but tuned in towards the last few episodes when they were bringing everybody back. I loved the ending of Carter calling "Dr. Greene" into the ER as the final scene. I thought it was a fitting finale.
I'm one of the few that loved the LOST finale. I have the last 6 episodes of Chuck on the DVR, I guess I should get to those soon. Haven't even visited the thread for the finale for fear of spoilers.

By all means bypass all the Chuck threads till you watch.

Re: What were your biggest series finale's
The ones that I personally watched during airtime:
The Shield - downright chilling.
The Wire - saw before it aired, but it was pretty great.
There must be others that had an impact. I will say that although I haven't seen all of Cheers, that finale was pretty damn special, especially the last part with the core group in the bar.
Seinfeld - I didn't watch the show that much, but I tuned in for the finale, and liked it at the time.
I was lucky enough to catch a re-run of the Newhart finale without having been told the ending, so that was a very nice surprise.
Finales that had little to no impact:
24 and Entourage. Sorry but the "we're doing movies afterwards, the party continues!" eliminates a lot of the impact for me, especially with those announcements happening years before the finales in question. Having said that, these two shows are ones that I could see continuing for multiple more seasons, so the endings seemed pre-mature to me.

How can something be overrated when it was damn near universally panned?
Seinfeld's finale was considered a disappointment by many (myself not included) so how is it overrated? It may have been over-hyped when it first aired but that's expected for the most popular show on at the time.
