I hope someone can remember, because I can't. LOL !! There was a mini series on ABC back in the early 1980's, a lil girl is kidnapped and never returned. Years later, the girl comes back into her father's life but I think there is a romantic element because they don't know who the other really is.

The Thorn Birds. I think you got the plot mixed up. The Father is a Priest and the girl Meggie, was a kid he met, but later fell in love with when she got older.

Seriously, sounds close to the plot of The Thorn Birds but the "father" was a priest.
