Re: Alcatraz -- "Kit Nelson" -- 1/23/12

There must be a reason why these killers immediately start killing again as soon as they're released. So the sniper guy in the second episode was in prison for what...3 years and then suddenly finds himself out of prison 50 years later and the first thing he does is start sniping people again? Why not lay low for a while first?

And now it looks like a child killer gets released in this episode. The first thing he's going to do is find the nearest child to kill? I'll admit that I'm not familiar with the mindset of killers and I know that many killers/rapists that get released do eventually repeat their crimes, but do they repeat their crimes the same day they get released?

explain to me the logic of FOX re-airing the 2nd episode AFTER the premiere of the third. fucking stupid.

Re: Alcatraz -- "Kit Nelson" -- 1/23/12

There's so many questions that the show hasn't provided answers to. I can understand why the might not provide the answers, but when none of the characters are seen to even ask the questions, it makes them look really dumb.

Considering this is supposed to otherwise be the normal world, the 2 main characters should be screaming "What??" a few times each episode.

Officer jugs did not live up to her name this week. No running, no low cut tops, no ratings...

I thought it was a good episode despite the lack of Detective Juggs's jugs. The killer was really creepy.

Meh, I'm already bored with this show.

This seems to be like a "killer of the week" show, but with a twist or answering something from the pilot to make it seem serialized

We are going to be dicked with for a few years, until we get somewhere with the plot.

Uhh.. It's not about the plot, it's about the characters.

:p

I thought it was pretty good. Kit Nelson was creepy as hell. The scene where he described to the Warden how he killed his brother was just eery. I also liked the scene where he was talking to his father and showed absolutely no remorse.

 I love the Warden and Associate Warden in the Alcatraz flashbacks. I hope we continue to see more of them.

Each act with the flashbacks is really structured like Lost and to some extent Fringe.

A few things I noticed

1) Kit Nelson was talking to Rebecca's grandfather in the infimary. The grandfather must play a significant role in this and is probably part of the longer story arc.

2) Dr. Borigard (sp?) was the physician who examined Nelson and was also the same man in the morgue in the new prison. It appears along with Lucy we have 2 people who have not aged since 1960.

 at how they threw in a hatch in the middle of that forest. A little Lost shout out there? The writer of this episode Jennifer Johnson was also a writer on Lost and of course Jack Bender directed it again.

They may not be reappearing one at a time. They may have all come back at oncw and are all running around loose. No telling when
they came back.

The doctor probably disappeared along with the inmates and guards and reappeared without aging. The warden may be running around present day unaged also.

I was wondering if he was always that fat or if he's been expanding.

Yeah...that's what I was concerned about when I watched this ep (my first ep of the series).

The ending was interesting but I can't invest my time in future eps when there's a track record of things not paying off.

Man that chick is hot. I noticed her on SOA, but she's really shining in this. Too bad the show is kinda dull.

9 p.m.
Fox: Alcatraz (9 million, 3.0)

 After 2 weeks, 3 episodes, it's still holding up and amazingly it's still at 3.0.

I quite like it. I suspect that there will be some "mythology" episodes along the way but it has me intrigued. I really like the old warden he is a good character. Only thing I think it needs is another main character in the modern timeline

Re: Alcatraz -- "Kit Nelson" -- 1/23/12

I also think it was really good, specially if you think it's the third episode of the first season. They are laying a lot of ground right now.

A good combination of mythology and killer of the week IMHO.

I'm glad I read to the bottom as I was thinking I was the only one enjoying this. Now I never watched Lost due to the reasons listed in the pilot thread of missing the first 3 seasons but I don't mind the killer of the week with the underlying mystery sprinkled here and there.

Is she the one who tricked Jenna? Thought I'd seen her somewhere. Can't say I think she's white hot; actually she kind of annoys me on this show. Agree it's already getting dull, sad to say...

Re: Alcatraz -- "Kit Nelson" -- 1/23/12

I'm enjoying this so far. There's enough actual story with the flashback scenes for each killer of the week and the overall plot is still a constant.

If you read Hurley's blog, he actually lost weight before starting on this show.

The pilot was shot on Alcatraz but the rest of the season has been shooting in Vancouver, so the sets for scenes at the rock are really good as they look authentic.

I want to see more of the Warden. His scene with the matches and Kit Nelson was quite compelling. It had a very sinister aspect to it.
