Wow, I'm shocked. This is the 1st dead HIMYM thread ever, especially after 2 days.

Marshall's plots dealing with his dad are the best this show has ever done. This one was no exception. I could have done a full 22 with Marshall and done without the lame Ted & Barney stuff and Robin & Whatshisface. It's not that they were awful (close, Robin's was decent), but Marshall's was just that much better than the other two storylines just pale in comparison.

Yeah Marshall's story was decent, but the rest of the episode was so bad that it dragged down Marshall's parts.
This was the first episode in a long time that made me question why I'm still watching this show.

This season is like the Sixth season of scrubs where it's pretty much all down hill from here. I usually like Kal Penn but he is absolutely horrible in this show. Can't wait for him to get the ax.

It's weird, he usually has some decent lines but they just fall flat for some reason. His delivery is off or something. It's a cast of exaggerated characters, but he seems too straight faced to fit in.

He just doesn't have any chemistry with the cast. I had the same feeling about Sarah Chalke... loved her on Scrubs, but on HIMYM she just wasn't that interesting. Contrast that to someone like Jorge Garcia, who I felt fit in right away when he was a guest star.

Actually watched this as it aired for once, just wasn't interested enough in it to post. It was only okay.

I really liked this episode, it was a good mix of laughs and heart. Marshall's tailgating was funny and touching and I loved the passages from his 'mysteries' book, especially the "To be fair" parts. Some other good jokes too like the shoplifting board game and the wet party hats.
I thought it was kind of strange that they went for a plot point of Lily not believing in anything, has that ever been brought up in the show before? At first I though they were going to come out and say she was an atheist but they kept it only semi-serious and focused on Marshall's book.
I don't hate Kal Penn here as much as people seem to but I agree that he doesn't bring much to the table, the show doesn't need a straight man and the "I'm a therapist" jokes are getting old.

I wasn't a huge fan of this episode, but I really liked Robin's storyline this time around. My only complant is that it's getting annoying that I want to cry after watching every other episode of this *sitcom*.

Count me in on the Kal has no chemistry with the rest of the cast bandwagon. I'm also tired with these sentimental episodes. I might be in the minority on that but I'll stick to it.

This was actually the first and only episode I've thought Penn was OK in. He didn't make me want to stab my eyes at all in this one.

the bouncer was from shat my dad says
and at this point it's pretty obvious they've decided to forget about the premise of the title other than to occasionally throw out red herrings. I bet they have no real plan for wrapping up that idea when the time comes
which is fine as I'm still liking the show

It wouldn't be so bad if we could focus more on Ted's love life and develop his character more. The past few seasons he hasn't had a serious relationship and it's been mostly him having zany adventures. Although the episode where he bought his future house was interesting.
