Re: Dexter -- Season Finale -- "This Is the Way the World Ends" -- 12/18/11

Here's an interesting interview that was posted last night after the show. The next two seasons is supposed to tie "everything" together - after the last six leading all up to it.

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/liv...ale-deb-275134

From a comment on that page:

In the books, Deb finds out about Dexter and has a moral problem with it at first and debates turning him in; then something happens to her and she approves of what he does. Perhaps this is a twist that the writer's will adapt from Lindsay's novels.

Me too. It was a blast from start to finish.

Wow so many complainers here. It's just a TV show guys, and an entertaining one at that. Call something sloppy writing, but whatever, they get paid to keep you watching, and you do.

As for people thinking that they completely forgot about the intern and his Ice Truck Killer hand... you really think they forgot? Have you not seen any TV show in the past decade? These threads keep going through the seasons... it will pay off. I figured that would go without saying but man some people are hard to please.

Showtime was never going to cancel the show. Sho has nothing else on (hence why Weeds keeps coming back). This was the last year on Michael C Hall's contract. They knew that going into the Season - and after every episode was filmed. With his cancer, divorce from the CO-STAR, it was very possible this would be the last Season.

Re: Dexter -- Season Finale -- "This Is the Way the World Ends" -- 12/18/11

My feelings for this season can be best summed up by Travis: “I can’t stay here much longer if you’re gonna stink like that.”

For me that was a weak ending to a weak season. I like enough of the characters to happily watch just to see where they'd take the story, but never did I feel anyone was in any danger. There didn't seem to be any consequence to anything anyone was doing. Even Quinn gets to stay after being a fuck up.Who even thought Harrison was gonna get it? When Travis took him it felt like just one more plot device to fill a few more minutes before Travis gets caught and wrapped up in plastic. It's almost like the whole season was just pretense to get to the last 60 seconds.

I also think what's going on with Deb is pretty lame. Time and time again they hammer home how crappy her track record with guys is, and the rock Dexter has been. So now they're throwing a romance into the mix? I think Deb finding out about Dexter would have been powerful enough without her also being in love with him. So if they go this route, she's been his closest family member all his life who now has romantic feelings for him, plus she's his boss in the homicide dept., AND she just found out he's a serial killer. After this season, I don't trust the creators to handle all of this in such a way that won't make the eyes roll right out of my head.

While it was not the best season but still entertaining. Looking forward to season 7.

Wow, you made two vague predictions (and one of them the same one that someone makes EVERY season) and one came true. We got a psychic over here!

I still can't believe people actually think Deb's going to die. It's ridiculous.

Oh please, it's not like it was some big revelation or flaw in the writing. This has been built up for years and it just finally happened this season.

Something from that article that bugs me:

Spoiler:
TVLINE | Finally, the reaction to a possible Deb-Dexter romance seems more negative than positive. There’s a genuine ick factor there. Will that impact how far you take the storyline in the final two seasons?

No. I’m not aware that there’s an ick factor, but that’s certainly not going to affect where we go with that story.

Because I'm one of those people.

But what I did like about the article was:

Spoiler:
Him saying that there isn't a plan for some elaborate fake out and that Deb did in fact see Dexter killing DDK

Plus, Deb's convinced herself that she's really in love with Dexter, and Dexter's only killing the guilty, so her moral quandry can be placated for now, but it has to be addressed by the end of the series in 2 more seasons.

You honestly think they'd go into this season and not have some kind of alternate plan in place? Highly doubtful that they didn't have more than one ending planned in case he didn't come back. This is the biggest show they've got going and Michael C. Hall is the show. Without him most people don't really care so it's pretty obvious Showtime was going to do anything they could to keep him on the show. If negotiations somehow would have fell through I'm thinking they would have found someway to wrap the series. Either by having Michael C. Hall come back for a couple episodes and continue without him (unlikely) or maybe done a tv movie or something. There's no way they'd just end the season and have a cliffhanger ending with no backup plan in case he wouldn't have came back.

Can I just say I eagerly await the day when some of the TV Talk posters all get together and produce the worlds greatest ever TV series with absolutely zero flaws?

True words my friend. Some of these people just like to pick everything apart and can't just be entertained. It's a show for a reason. It's not a show set in the real world and while there are flaws in it at times it's still better than most of the crap that passes for entertainment these days.

Spoiler:
In the finale on top of the skyscraper, are we to assume Dexter had a dummy needle prepared, so that’s why he wasn’t unconscious after injecting himself?
It was not a dummy needle. We didn’t answer that question, but we had an answer for it. It was just a little awkward to slip it into the footage. We showed him emptying the needle seconds beforehand, but it didn’t look right [in post-production]. We tried to address it in voiceover, it just became awkward and cumbersome.

Spoiler:
The creepy computer guy. I’m assuming he mailed the hand because he’s infatuated with serial killers and Dexter, or is there something more I should be reading into that?
Well, he had no idea Dexter is a serial killer — at least, not to our knowledge. I think he’s just got this weird love-to-hate thing for Dexter and has latched onto him and is seeking his approval. But to send the hand like that, we have no idea what kind of message he’s sending. At this point, it’s just to arouse our suspicion about who is this guy and what are his intentions.

Uhhh, Homeland would like to have a word with you. That was a flawless season of TV.

I'm actually one of the more nicer posters when it comes to Dexter. It was a flawed season. There were some good moments and Hall was solid, but it wasn't one of the more compelling seasons for this show. Hanks IMO didn't have the acting chops to make Travis a really compelling villain. Edward James Olmos was essentially wasted.

I would give this season a C or C- Scott Buck has his work cut out for him when they start scripting season 7, but they have a good starting point with the cliffhanger.

Oh good God with the apologists. It's just like the Lost thread. "It's just entertainment." "Can you do better?" Etc., etc.

One does not have to be a painter to appreciate a nice painting. Same here. There's been a noticeable decline in the quality of this show. Whether some choose to roll with it is certainly their prerogative. But that does not change the fact this show has become less compelling for some than it used to be.

Lowering standards is not the way to insure we get high quality entertainment on TV.

And for the record, this is really the first season of Dexter I have not been crazy about that I've watched live. I'd love for someone to find me picking apart the show's past seasons on this forum. You either won't be able to, or I have a shitty memory.

i jut started watching dexter this yr (watched all seasons on dvd, then watched this one live). what is the schedule like for this show? will it start the same time next yr?

also i liked the season until i started rewatching all the series and saw how weak it was in comparison. still i dont think it was awful. with everything that is set up for next season though i think it should get back on track. im just glad travis was killed so we dont have to see his "something stinks face" every scene. what a truly awful actor he is.

It starts around the last week of September or early October.

+ about a billion here.

I've loved the first couple seasons of the show, but it's ridiculous to say there hasn't been a decline in quality here. Once the writers started giving the secondary characters more story arcs is when this show has gone down the toilet.

Dexter has gone from super prepared to lazy.

Tell that to the second Fuentes brother.

Boring, predictabel finale with a cool final 10 seconds.
What a shitty season this was.

That was probably the reason for the scene between Louis and Masuka, where Masuka said he could give him some consulting work. The actor himswlf was probably feeling the same way as His character in terms of coming back to work.
