Frozen Planet (BBC Earth)--3/18/2012

Frozen Planet (the latest BBC Earth series) will debut on Discovery Channel on March 18, 2012. This is the series previewed on the special edition DVD/BD releases of Planet Earth.

I assume that it will be Americanized like most BBC Earth series are, but the original British version should be available on home video.

The pre-orders for DVD and BD are on amazon already, but there is no release date. I assume they will come out shortly after the series airs, as is typical.

The Frozen Planet DVD set, which includes all 7 episodes with the original David Attenborough narration, is out on April 17. Bonus content includes a featurette on scientific work at the South Pole, 10-minute "making-of" featurettes for the first 6 episodes (probably attached the the episode itself, as BBC Earth did with Planet Earth and Life), video production diaries, and a 60-minute highlights special that aired over Christmas week in the UK.

Alec Baldwin narrates the Discovery version of the first six episodes (which will be edited for time -- the 10-minute "making-of" that aired with each BBC episode is cut, plus about 5 minutes cut from the main episode). Since Discovery originally declined to air the 7th episode on climate change, then changed its mind and decided to air it, I read that the original Attenborough narration is used.

I like this show. Watching that Elephant seal fight is painful and the Polar Bear breaking the ice lol.

I want to buy the blu-ray set.

How come they don't use Attenborough for the Discovery shows in the US?

Do they think his voice or accent would turn off US viewers?

Baldwin is not that bad and at least it is not Oprah doing the narration.

The Killer Whales working together to knock seals off the ice was crazy.
