That's lame. That's what I don't like about my old DIRECTIVO compared to both my now-retired ReplayTV and the current DTV DVRs. I always thought TIVO was overrated to begin with.

We still have 2 Tivos somewhere. When we switched to UVerse the Tivos went to storage.Now, thanks to Dazzle, I'm able to pull shows off of the UVerse box to burn my own DVDs. So I don't have to worry about running out of space and I can keep what ever shows I want.

How much was it? Requires SWM I'm assuming? I'm still on the old setup with 4 coax coming from the dish, into the grounding block in the basement, then out from that with 2 going to each DVR.

I bought an HR24 or something like that about a year ago from Solid Signal. The other receiver is a very old HR20 that could stand to be replaced. I just can't justify spending more than a couple hundred bucks to upgrade everything to SWM and whole home, so curious what it might cost me...

I feel the same way. I have the Whole Home DVR now and I absolutely love it. No way will I give that up, even for my beloved Tivo!

I callled Directv and they said the HMC DVR or HR34 is $399 plus around $50 to install!

Installation is a waste of money and they won't wave that fee and I assume everybody charges the same universal price for Directv DVR equipment?

I checked solidsignal.com which a previous poster mentioned and still $399.

I want to replace my old HD DVR that I got in 2010 since it looks like it was refurbished and it runs slow and now pauses at least 2-3 times during a live or taped program and you have to move out of your chair to use the remote even with new batteries.

Call them back, say cancel-cancel at the prompt, and tell them you're switching to FIOS. Then they'll deal.

I can try that but since I have been a customer since 2011 with 4 DVRrs they might not believe me.


Has anyone hooked an external hard drive for more recording capacity or will that eventually screw up your DVR?

I have a WD external hard drive hooked up to my downstairs DVR. The only downsides I've had are that it overrides the DVR's hard drive instead of adding to it, and occasionally if you have to reboot the receiver, it doesn't recognize the hard drive. So you have to reboot it again. Other than that, it's been great. I can store tons of shows now. It's either a 750gb or 1tb, I can't remember.
