Because The Disney Channel/TBS sitcoms where all the 1 dimensional charecters just scream cliched stock sitcom 1 liners at each other are usually more creatively acted.

This thread actually got me to watch an episode of BBT because I was curious...
It was quite possibly the worst piece of shit I have ever seen in my entire life. Didn't laugh once, not even when they told me to.

I watched a couple random episodes awhile back and while I wasn't as vehement towards it, it did nothing for me. It wasn't until I gave it a fair shake on DVD that I grew to like the characters.

HIMYM is the only one I enjoy, and that's almost entirely because of NPH and Jason Segel.
I gave BBT a chance, but it was just too formulaic and the cast is stacked with totally mediocre actors. 2 1/2 Men is fucking awful though and its success completely baffles me. It's the epitome of lowest-common-denominator sitcoms.

In this day and age, laugh tracks are always pretty noticeable and unforgivable, but in something like HIMYM, I can live with it. On the other hand, there was something especially egregious with Two & A Half Men this past Monday -- The audience laughed hysterically at lines that the housekeeper thought, but didn't say out loud. Are the members of the studio audience telepathic as well as being easy lays?
I've always been annoyed when the audience laughs at a camera gag that only works on a TV screen : there was one of those on this episode as well (a pan out that shows the housekeeper was sitting next to the two guys the whole time; we at home didn't know that, but the only reason that the audience would laugh or even realize it was a joke is if they were watching the TV monitors instead of the live performers in front of them).

For example (a much better show than "Men" obviously) in the "Seinfeld" episode "The Puffy Shirt," the camera pulls out to show some homeless people wearing the puffy shirts, and as it pulls back, we hear the audience react and one woman say "oh, my god!" That scene was pre-shot and they showed it to the audience on a monitor, so they're seeing only what the camera sees. It's really no different than SNL or "The Daily Show"'s outdoor segments or Monty Python's filmed segments -- all are shown to the audience for authentic reactions during the taping.

I felt like the characters were unrealistic and the geek humor was WAY too forced... If you want geek humor, watch CHUCK instead. They really get it right.

I agree. I have tried to watch both of those shows and made it through one show each. To me they are simply not funny and the advertising on Sunday football talking about how popular they are makes me wonder.
