Synopsis:

Spoiler:
Zooey Deschanel ("(500) Days of Summer") stars as Jess Day, a young woman who, after discovering her long-term boyfriend is cheating on her, moves into a loft apartment with three male roommates: prickly bartender Nick, womanizer Schmidt and intense personal trainer Coach. In the opener, the guys try to help Jess get back on her feet and into the dating world.

FYI, Damon Wayans Jr. is in this Pilot episode even though he's on the ABC show Happy Endings. Once Happy Endings was renewed, the producers of this show were forced to write him out. A new character will be introduced in episode 2.

It's been available on iTunes for free for about 2 weeks now. It has promise, but I'm still not 100% buying the "Zooey Deschanel is a dork and doesn't know she's hot." premise...

I got this as a free download from PSN. It has it's moments but is totally inconsistent. It just feels like random scenes from a brainstorming session strung together.

Yeah, it does feel very haphazard. I'll give it a few more episodes before making up my mind one way or another.

So will Damon Wayans, Jr. star in this as well as Happy Endings or will he be written out of this show?

Re: New Girl -- Series Premiere -- "Pilot" -- 9/20/11

I saw the Pilot was posted early, but I decided to hold off until tonight.

I like Zooey Deschanel alot, but judging by the promos, her character could come across as really annoying to some people.

As for Damon Wayans Jr, he would have starred in this show if Happy Endings got cancelled. They couldn't re-shoot/re-cast his character for the Pilot because apparently he's in 90% of it and they would have had to shoot an entirely new Pilot.

Well that sucks. I think I liked his character better on this. So far this is the best new sitcom of the season.

Re: New Girl -- Series Premiere -- "Pilot" -- 9/20/11

I was pretty shocked how much I hated it. And really surprised that I wasn't so much annoyed by Zooey's character as the three guys. I simply could NOT believe a word of dialogue from any of them. It was like their characters were written by martians who had heard of men, but had never actually had any form of communication with any.

Especially the twit who keeps taking his shirt off. Community already DID that ("He never wears a shirt and he never wears shoes. How has he not died from lack of service?") - better and, more importantly, much more efficiently. I wish I'd just turned the TV off and put in a disc of Community instead. Heck, I actually wish I'd switched channels and watched Ringer instead! And that's saying something. Until I hear great tales on the internet that the show has improved dramatically (i.e. toned down the doucheness factor of the guys considerably) in later episodes, I'm gonna just ignore this and pretend it doesn't exist.

Zooey's cute enough to make me forgive the Dharmaness of it all, but not cute enough to make me put up with the triGregs.

I have to admit, this show made me LOL a few times, and the douchebag jar is a good runinng gag if they continue with it. It'd be funny if they replace the Coach character (due to the recasting), and just not make hay about it at all.

Damon Wayans, Jr was better in this than he is in "Happy Endings".

The wife laughed out loud several times, which is a rarity.

We both really enjoyed it.

Terrible garbage. All these new sitcoms suck, and I have no hope for "Whitney".

NBC may be a terrible network otherwise, but at they have three good sitcoms, which is more than I can say for both CBS and Fox, which have none.

I liked the douche bag jar, I thought that was pretty funny. Zooey was ok, but her "wackiness" could get old real fast. And yeah, the Schmidt guy was annoying as hell. A shame he's not the one getting recast.

Really uneven pilot.

Awful. Annoying characters, and lousy dialogue.

Re: New Girl -- Series Premiere -- "Pilot" -- 9/20/11

It was just okay.

It was really rough and sloppily put together. The best part IMO was the 3 guys singing "I've had the time of my life" to Jess in that restaurant. Yeah that was really stupid, but I couldn't help but laugh at how dumb it was.

And I like the douchebag jar as the possible running gag. Most of the jokes didn't really work.

It's too bad Wayans is out after this episode, but I'm glad that means Happy Endings is staying on the air. Coach was probably the funniest of the 3 guys.

Jess is a cute character and there is potential here. I'll have to see how this progresses in the next few weeks. I would probably give this a C+ for the effort.

I agree it felt uneven

I laughed at the douchebag jar, but am expecting them to run it into the ground.

Re: New Girl -- Series Premiere -- "Pilot" -- 9/20/11

I found quite a few things enjoyable here, and given that the pilots are usually the hardest for me to get into I'm taking that as a good sign. It did seem really choppy, but I felt that same way about the first Happy Endings too, and that turned out to be more thank ok. I'll definitely be sticking with the show.

Also Zooey Deschanel.....so....yeah.

I'm probably too much in love with Zooey to really be objective, but I sort of liked it. Can't really get behind the She's a dork who doesn't know she's hot thing, but am willing to ride it out a few more episodes if it's available on demand. Won't fill my DVR hard drive with a season pass of this.

I enjoyed this way more than I ever imagined. I haven't cared for Damon Waynes, Jr. in anything I've seen him to this point, but I thought he was really funny in this. Sucks that he's gone after the pilot. Definitely keep watching for a bit.

Re: New Girl -- Series Premiere -- "Pilot" -- 9/20/11

I read one critics review saying that Zooey's character was so weird and whacky that she seemed mentally challenged. They were right.
With all her random little songs and quirky one liners, she was just annoying.
In spite of the guy with his shirt off most of the time, the guys were very unfunny.
