Pretty tight episode. Lots of tension, lots of gunplay, lots of pieces moving around the board. An awesome debut by Danny Trejo, and we get our third Shield player to boot! Loved it.
I always feel bad for Unser, even when I probably shouldn't. And that Oswald guy--man is he screwed.
I'm lovin' the new Fed & sheriff stuff. And it looks like they're turning up the slow burn on the Hamlet subplot too, tho I'm guessing it'll stay with Gemma vs. Tara for this season... can't have the full-on Jax/Clay war this early if they're looking for seven seasons...

Am I forgetting something that happened on the show or is all this talk about Jax being attacked in prison only from the "appisodes"?

it was in the appisodes, but they clearly mentioned it in last weeks season opener... numerous times, and showed a shirtless scene with Jax having mutliple abdominal scars.

Yeah, solid episode this week. Great introduction to Trejo's character. Great scene with the Fed, sheriff and mayor early on too.

i liked when the the russians shot at Trejo and Aceveda and they didn't even flinch, like "bitch, please...i've seen more gunfire during breakfast".

Solid introduction to Trejo and Benito Martinez's characters. The shootout with the Russians was pretty cool and some nice kills.
I have to wonder if this is the last we've heard of the Russians for awhile.
They set up an interesting conflict about the club running drugs for the Mexicans in addition to the weapons.
I'm a little confused about the letters/accident report that Gemma is freaking out about. Teller knew that Clay and Gemma were getting closer, which the letters documented etc. But, what is the deal with the accident report and Unser? Did the 3 of them cover up something regarding Teller's death?

Agreed. Glad to see Aceveda again. Is he going to be sticking around for a little while?
That's what I'm assuming.

Yeah there have been a couple references to there being something unusual about his death throughout the series. And one of the letters mentioned that John thought Gemma and Clay could conspire to take him out.

I'm assuming that we'll learn, perhaps this season, that Clay & Gemma actually did kill John--at the very least least somehow forcing the "accident" that did him in. Gemma's certainly been worried all along that Jax would figure out some awful truth, first with the diary, now with the letters. It looks like Tara's discovering it first.
That's what I was referring to with the Hamlet reference -- that the Prince discovers the King & Queen murdered his father, the old King.... John's letters are like the Ghost of Hamlet's father, leading him to discover the truth.

Gemma obviously loved John Teller... I can't really see any circumstance where she would play an active hand in killing him. I think it will be something more like she found out about his death and covered it up for some reason, or her actions somehow accidentally lead to John Teller's death

Entertaining episode, but why did the Sheriff go to all the trouble of hassling them and busting up the club and then right after that, not even follow the gang out to where Jax was kidnapped? Just seems like he is all over them sometimes and other times they are free to do whatever they please.

Gemma said it... the issue with the police report, even if it doesn't contain anything incriminating, is just the fact that Tara has it. It means she's suspicious and looking into things. Whatever happened isn't airtight and they'd just as soon not having anyone looking into it too closely, so it bothers them (especially Gemma).

she was involved. there's no doubt about it. you don't cover up the information about his death just because she "accidentally" caused his death. clay and her killed him, probably because he was having the same feelings the jax is right now. he wanted out.

Yes, I obviously understand that (not to mention he already did that when he stopped them coming back from prison).
I'm talking about how it's rather convenient that the times he has them tailed, nothing is going down (well except when they snuck out in the delivery truck). But when there is no tail, all the shit goes down (Clay/Jax making a deal with the cartel, the gunfight to save Jax, etc).

maybe they just don't have the manpower to be following them around all the time.

I was always under the impression that Clay killed John during the SOA-Mayan wars and that they burried John with the dead Mayans. Seems there was an episode in Season 1 where they mentioned the burial.

barelypure, you're confusing what happened to John with what happened to the father of that druggie mechanic. That's who Clay killed and buried with the Mayans.

Good opening ttwo episodes
Trejo is badass and follows on from the Cartel hitman he played in Predator
seeing another Shield Alum, Assevada was cool, he was effective without uttering a word
I don't get get the Sons moral compass, they are happy to kill but have problem running drugs
and why would Tara keep those letters so in the open in her handbag !
