Re: "Bar Rescue" - Sundays on Spike
I want to hear more of that older hippie chick's music. ;)

Re: "Bar Rescue" - Sundays on Spike
That was a pretty extensive (and expensive) makeover last night, adding a microbrewery. Granted, it makes sense as the "Los Angeles Brewing Company" didn't actually do any brewing! But it also requires a brewmaster. More importantly, how did they have any house brews available at the reopen, as they certainly didn't have any time to age?
I can't imagine they'll remain successful, unless they bring in totally new management. If they couldn't be bothered to maintain kegs and beer lines, how could they be expected to maintain brewing equipment? |
Re: "Bar Rescue" - Sundays on Spike
and according to Wikipedia, LABrewCo never installed the brewery equipment, lost their liquor license, and shut down. Some other brewer who knows what the hell they're doing is likely to buy that spot.
Piratz was revisited a couple of weeks ago, and has shut down since. |
Re: "Bar Rescue" - Sundays on Spike
Didn't John say this was the most expensive rescue he did.
Makes me wonder if the guy who is going to "buy that spot" is some how related to the production company / Taffer franchise?? Let the show pay for renovations new equipment - goes out of business - then buy it back for pennies on the dollar. |
Re: "Bar Rescue" - Sundays on Spike
Yeah, something is up with that. Even before I found out the makeover failed, I questioned why so much money and technology was being invested in a bar clearly not capable of the new direct. See my post immediately following the show's airing. It was clearly a makeover designed with the next owners in mind.

New episodes start up again tonight.

Re: "Bar Rescue" - Sundays on Spike
eh.. first episode was ok.. but that kid seemed like he sniffed too much glue and there was no coming back.
the place was huge.. and would succeed with just the capital improvements and the dance floor. |
Re: "Bar Rescue" - Sundays on Spike
I looked up that place on last night's episode, and a lot more was revealed about how Bar Rescue operates. For one thing, a lot of the improvements they make at a place are loaned or leased. For example, the stage improvements to Panic Room were only done on a 4-month lease, and the bar would have to pay if they wanted to keep them.
Still, a place like that is one I'd be more likely to actually go to, so I'd like to see more episodes like that. |

rotfl
The Panic Room sign was recently vandalized to make it read "Penis Room." (Pictured below) - It has since been fixed. http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-2vsi2B8F0R...r%2BRescue.jpg |
Re: "Bar Rescue" - Sundays on Spike
Tonight's rescue was the first of a bar somewhat near to me (although I'd never been). I think the "library" concept Jon updated it to is a horrible idea for the area. It's El Cajon, a place mostly noted for rodeos and overall blue collar culture. Certainly not academia. I bet they dump the concept within a year.

New batch of episodes start tonight, 10/4/15.

Re: "Bar Rescue" - Sundays on Spike
Jon Taffer invented the NFL Sunday Ticket.
When he is trying to convince these dumbass bar owners that he knows marketing, why doesn't he drop that. |
Re: "Bar Rescue" - Sundays on Spike
The Spike censors are getting lazy. They didn't blur out the one owner giving the finger (remember, in the Brixton episode, Taffer made the guy paint over the old name and he responded by painting a middle finger, which was blurred out). Then I noticed that one of the many stickers on the wall said "Practice safe sex - go fuck yourself"
I liked that they kept the bar name, and the outside look. I think they made the interior a little too nice though. It's still a dive bar in a working class area of town. As Carl Carlson said about the Moe's Tavern makeover, "The dank Moe, ya gotta keep the dank" And the previous week, the Ramona bar, that was one where Taffer kept the spirit of East County San Diego (unlike putting a literary themed bar in friggin El Cajon). Giving it an old west feel is right for the mountain areas like Ramona. |
Re: "Bar Rescue" - Sundays on Spike
The makeover for the most recent bar looked kind of bland after the punk rock baby dolls and dildos were removed. :)

Re: "Bar Rescue" - Sundays on Spike
Managed to see an episode of the gorilla going nuts again for the first time this past weekend in ages. It has not changed at all this show. Getting a little tired of the format, even after such a long break. Taffer is funny to watch, but the solution to the problems is always the same thing. Cocktails and a few new bits on the menu after a good clean up and a crappy rebrand. Sometimes the places do look a lot better afterwards (as they are such shitholes to begin with) but i always wonder how well these places actually do. I read that a lot of them still go under and i am not surprised. They are sinking ships and doubt most can be saved at such late stages in the game. Did they ever go back to that Pirates Tavern with the crazy staff that all clung to that stupid format? Those were a bunch of idiots.

re: Bar Rescue (Paramount Network) -- Discussion Thread
They did go back to the Pirate place, and it was still struggling with the format. I believe they went under shortly thereafter.
I know what you mean about the repetitiveness of the show, but at least the last two episodes featured places with good food. The Ramona place was just serving too large portions of it to be profitable, and the Ohio place was smoking the meat at home and not on site, which is apparently illegal. |

Maybe this has been mentioned, but you can always go here for good updates on how a place is really doing:

re: Bar Rescue (Paramount Network) -- Discussion Thread
They did update shows on "most stubborn owners" and "most delusional owners". Among the second group was that asshole supreme, Steve Ricci, of the renamed - and now defunct - Metal & Lace bar, who didn't even pay his staff.
He did call Taffer a douchebag, which is absolutely correct. Taffer must be one of the most effusively egomaniacal people on television, which speaks volumes. |
re: Bar Rescue (Paramount Network) -- Discussion Thread
Ah, this latest rescue is very close to my home (<5 miles). It's ALWAYS been the "Filling Station" for as long as I remember, more than 10 years. Since the owner on the show only bought it 2 years ago, I guess that's why there was no attachment to the old name and she didn't mind rebranding at all. I drove by yesterday, and see they're keeping the new name. I'll have to stop in a few weeks from now, as right now it's probably a bunch of curious Spike viewers.
Never went in before, 'cause it was clearly always a Marine bar. |
re: Bar Rescue (Paramount Network) -- Discussion Thread
Chix on Dix. The place reminded me why I never have, and never will, step foot in a strip club.

re: Bar Rescue (Paramount Network) -- Discussion Thread
I was planning on going to the Pirate Bar (been to it once before) but it's permanently closed. From some articles I read, they were quite pissed about the show, as well as the one where they got revisited.
