Just Started Watching Breaking Bad

So, I finally decided to watch Breaking Bad. I can't remember why I didn't watch from the beginning. Might have been a conflict with other shows. Anyway, I love it. Just finished season one last night.

The sister-in-law is annoying. Interesting choice with the son, but I guess that plays into all the financial issues the family has. Hank, the DEA agent, is hysterical. I didn't realize this show would have so much humor in it. Can't wait to see what Walt will do next. He's getting bad ass now.

Found an old thread on here that I didn't want to bump since it's over two years old. But, I agree with one post that said the tiarra might have been seized evidence that Hank took. I remember he had a weird look on his face when he saw it unwrapped and then he immediately asked Walt for a stronger drink.

The best thing about this show is that, when you think it can't get any better, it does.

Last season was the best ever.

Glad to hear that. I'll start Season two this week. A buddy of mine has the set.

Two moments in season 3 took my breath away, but one ending sequence in particular is the coolest thing I've ever seen on TV.

I agree with you but, really, Breaking Bad always has great endings for each episode, IMO.

I think season 2 was much better.
Yes, season 3 had four or five completely amazing episodes, but the rest was IMO kinda...boring. Especially when rewatching the season.
Season 3 also had "Fly"....ugh.

Re: Just Started Watching Breaking Bad

Season 3 had tension most movies try to achieve and never come close to, but started off slow and had Fly. But it also had the most interesting story developments of the series.

Season 2 was just waaaaay too reliant on coincidence.

Re: Just Started Watching Breaking Bad

Okay, just watched Eps 1-4 of Season 2 last night. Like how they are teasing what I assume to be what will happen in the season finale. I like shows that keep me guessing what will happen next.

Walt standing naked in the grocery store made me laugh out loud. I thought Jesse would annoy me, but I really like his character. Hank too.

I wondered how long Skyer would put up with Walt just taking off and not coming home for hours at a time. This show does get better with every episode. Remnids me of when I watched The Wire and The Shield.

Re: Just Started Watching Breaking Bad

I burned through season 2 all last weekend. I couldn't stop watching to see what Walt did next. Gonna start season 3 maybe tonight. This is definitely my new favorite show, I might even rank it above The Shield.

Season 2 was a lot more darker for me. I don't remember much humor. Jesse's literal downfall in the junkyard had me busting a gut. Definitely wasn't prepared for the tortoise season. It was one of the most awful things I've seen on tv.

The acting is just so damn good that these characters have such a realistic feel. I have a feeling that there will be a big showdown between Hank and Walt in the near future. Don't spoil it guys. lol

The Fly wasn't that bad and since it was the only kind of episode in the entire season, it was a nice change of pace.

I know I'm in the minority in this one but I was just as entranced as any of the other eps.

edit: Also, I don't bother to re-watch shows like BB. I'm sure they are boring on 2nd view.

That's entirely wrong, especially in the case of Breaking Bad.

Ya know, I read so much bitching about The Fly that when I finally got to that episode I was pleasantly surprised...

Also, to the OP, yes, it's a fantastic show! I just got into it in July and it didn't take me long to catch up. Some hilariously dark moments and some that are just shocking, to say the least. And top notch acting, always...

Before you "graduate" to the current season threads, please learn how to spell Skyler name correctly. People there get too sensitive about that.

;)

I didn't mind it when I watched it the first time it originally aired and just recently when I watched the Blu-ray in preparation for season 4 I thought it was just as good. I don't know what people's big beef with it was really. I kinda liked the fact that we had a slow episode that basically just focused on the dynamic between Walt and Jesse.

?

That was probably one of the craziest/breath-taking scenes in the show's history in my opinion.

Re: Just Started Watching Breaking Bad

Okay, just finished first three episodes of Season 3. Love the way Giancarlo Esposito is just a chill mo-fo. Knowing we're in Season 4 already took away from the suspense of the twins sitting outside Walt's bathroom. Skyler finding out was a wow moment and didn't think she would ever let him back in the house, but I guess she had to.

Love Bob Odenkirk's character. He's basically playing the same character he did on The Garry Shandling Show. Laughed hard at how he put it to Jesse's parents at the closing.

I can't watch the episodes until I put my daughter to sleep, so I've been up past 1 am the last four nights watching episodes. I remembered to DVR the new season 4 ep last night.

I started season 3 Saturday morning, and as expected, I flew through the season, now on episode 10. I also love the Giancarlo Esoisito character. He has just a calm coldness to him and probably appreciates Walt's anal minded behavior. I also find the Saul's henchman to be fascinating as well. Like nothing phases him. I found myself sympathizing with Walt, and really hating the way Skylar treats him, but now I see Walt and Jesse as both assholes.

Now I'm a bit depressed knowing I only have a handful of episodes left.

That's what I incorrectly assumed he was talking about. After that episode ended, I rewound that scene at least 4 times.

The first episode I caught live was the penultimate episode of Season 3. It sucked having to wait a week to see that episode.

That scene was awesome and unexpected. However, the build up to the other showdown (and the execution) I mentioned was unparalleled. Not since The Shield have I had a 'holy shit' moment like that where I thought about it long after the show had ended.

Finished watching season 3 yesterday. The holy crap moments were indeed out of this world crazy. I understand why some didn't like The Fly episode, but I think it served a purpose. Obsession, Fear, and Upcoming changes were the themes in that episode.

I'll watch Season 4 episodes On Demand this weekend in time for the new episode on Sunday. I'm psyched to finally catch up.

Awesome! Glad you enjoyed it and are catching up. Season 4 has been a bit of a slow burn so far, but it seems like things are gearing up for some crazy stuff...

I've just finished the first 3 episodes of Season 1. Criminy, I'm sorry I waited so long. It's great so far. It's going to be tough to catch up without spoiling them by reading episode threads.

My Other Self 11-26-11 10:33 AM

Re: Just Started Watching Breaking Bad

I got in to Breaking Bad back in June after a lot of contemplation from reviews and the upcoming promos I saw on AMC.com for Season 4. Needless to say it more than paid off. It's become my all-time favorite drama. I always wrote it off (without watching it) as some show about meth heads without knowing the full scope of what was going on. Needless to say I could kick myself now but this is one of those shows where the wait between seasons is KILLING ME. I didn't watch Season 4 every week because I couldn't handle the week between shows.

And, as amazing as this show is there has only been one scene in all 4 seasons that "bugged" me:
Spoiler:
The season finale of Season 4 was an amazing episode but the reason I'm so in to Breaking Bad is because of the realism. To me there's nothing preposterous or far-fetched about it.. but the scene when Gus walks out of the room to straighten his tie then collapse took me out of the moment. I know they were going for a bit of a chuckle amidst all the seriousness going on but that kind of bugged me given how ridiculous that was.

It really blows Season 5 is going to be its last.

Spoiler:
I don't know. It has been questioned a few times here, but who knows what the body will do in shock. Gus basically trained himself to be a robot to avoid suspicion. There was a similar scene in Band of Brothers. Carentan I believe.

Not sure because I have never been blown up in the face. Though I'm sure a couple of ex's have fantasized about it :o

I agree with both of you guys. I hate that scene because it jolts me out of the realism that the show creates in terms on tension, character development, etc. At the same time, I think had that particular character died in another way, we would've went, "That's it?"

So I guess it's damned if you do, damned if you don't. I still think it's too over the top for what this show typically establishes, but I get why they did it.
