Yeah, a pretty boring line-up. Not that many aren't deserving, but it's a duplicate of last year with Game of Thrones and Boardwalk Empire added in and Breaking Bad taken out. The fact Cinema Verite and Too Big To Fail were considered two of the best made-for-tv movies of the year makes me think they should reconsider the category. Very cool that Idris Elba got two separate acting noms, though, cool to see Dinklage up there as well.

I'm happy for Martha Plimpton, Connie Britton, Timothy Olyphant, Kyle Chandler and Louie CK.
Nominations that irk me
-Betty White for Hot in Cleveland. She didn't do any Emmy worthy work on that show. Several actresses from other shows were a lot better than her like Alison Brie on Community, Busy Phillips on Cougartown,Kaitlyn Olson on It's Always Sunny and even Naya Rivera on Glee did better work than Betty.
-Mariska Hargitay on SVU-She hasn't been Emmy worthy in several years but she continues to get nods because of nepotism
-Kathy Bates on Harry's Law-Undeserved
-Jon Cryer-Nick Offerman on Parks and Rec, Danny Pudi, Donald Glover were a lot better than Cryer this year
-Johnny Galecki-Ugggh Joel McHale should have his nod

Re: 2011 / 63rd Annual Emmy Nominations
I don't care much about the Emmys anymore but it's nice to see FNL finally get some love.
And damn, look at all those supporting noms for Modern Family. Deserved, but still wow.
The only glaring omission to me was Justified in the Drama category. Weird that the key players all got acting noms and yet it didn't make the cut for best drama.

I'm happy for Timothy and Margo which could mean that Justified while continue to recognized in the future by the Emmy's.

Hopefully this is the year that FNL will take home the trophy. Too bad that Breaking Bad's scheduling was such that it didn't qualify. Surprised to see Pillars of the Earth (Starz) make the cut -- while I liked it, it feels like it aired forever ago.

Re: 2011 / 63rd Annual Emmy Nominations
Too bad most of the shows I love right now are (almost) nowhere to be found in the (main at least) nominations: White Collar, Happy Endings, Parenthood, Shameless, Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson...
Elated that Mad Men is, of course, still strong but where is Jared Harris' nomination? He was amazing in the episode 'The Good News'. I'd take him over Slattery to be honest. The Suitcase hands down deserves writing in a drama.
I am glad that Modern Family's 'Caught in the Act' was nominated in writing for a comedy series. That was the funniest comedy episode of the year. I liked Louie's Poker/Divorce (mainly Poker), but I would have much preferred to have Travel Day/South nominated.
The Killing is showing too much in those nominations. Did people vote for it before the final handful of episodes? Michelle Forbes? One note performance if I ever saw one.

I'm pleasantly surprised for Martha Plimpton - though everyone who watches Raising Hope has been saying she deserved a nod.
I find it odd that seemingly every adult actor on Modern Family is up for supporting. I guess they agreed as an ensemble to put themselves in that category since they really ARE an ensemble supporting each other.

Re: 2011 / 63rd Annual Emmy Nominations
I used to be family friends with one of, if not the, biggest, most famous composers of TV themes. I once asked him about industry awards. He told me he really respected and appreciated the Grammys; he considered that his peer award. He said the Emmys didn't vote for the best theme, that it was all political. He basically considered it a garbage award for music. That was 25 years ago, things may have changed. But maybe not.

I love Modern Family. It's one of my favorite shows. But I will NEVER understand how anyone could say that 4 of the best comedic actors on TV are on one show. It's simply not possible.
There should be a limit of one nomination per show per category. It would force voters to go for more than the most absolutely obvious choices with no thought to anything but the top shows on TV and all of the actors from those shows.

Re: 2011 / 63rd Annual Emmy Nominations
Isn't everyone pulling for Dinklage?
In Answer to the question about Modern Family, yes they all submit as Supporting characters. Did last year as well. Glad to see they all got nominated this year; I think they all deserved it -- it must have been awkward for Jesse Tyler Ferguson to have been the odd man out. I predict that Jon Cryer will win out of sympathy for his crappy situation last season.
I know the rule has changed, but it's still stupid that Robert Morse is a nominee in the Guest category of Mad Men because of the way he's credited. Clearly he's not a guest actor on that show. Not that he'll beat Michael J Fox anyway. And I agree with the comment about the actor who plays Pryce being more deserving than Sterling this year.
I'm surprised Sean Bean isn't nominated for Best Actor. I thought he was great, and though I don't watch that many dramas, I'd have picked him ahead of Bushemi, who I never really bought as a powerful mob boss.

Re: 2011 / 63rd Annual Emmy Nominations
I lost respect for the emmy's decades ago, but this is an opportunity to regain some of that respect by giving FNL it's due. Most notably Connie Britton. She has created one of the most memorable multi-dimensional characters to ever appear on TV and from what I understand FNL was a show that allowed the actors freedom to shape the dialog and characters.

Cloris Leachman is in a similar situation as Morse, she's on most episodes but is still considered a "guest" star. Kind of like Heather Locklear on Melrose.

Yeah. It's a rule change that went into effect last year. If the credits list you with a "And Featuring" before your name, then you're considered a Guest Actor now. It's a stupid change.

Glad to see Louis CK and Cat Deeley on there.
I hope this is the year Elisabeth Moss finally wins, just for 'The Suitcase' alone.
Alfre Woodard is the lone True Blood nomination? Not to knock her, but if I was going to nominate anyone from last season it would have been Denis O'Hare (Russell Edgington).

I know FNL is popular on the internet... but I found it pretty meh.
Overall pretty good list. I couldn't think of anything that was really snubbed except maybe I'd substitute Community for 30 Rock on the Comedy list.
