I am on Storm of Swords right now and it seems as though some characters have started acting inexplicably stupid. First Ser Jorah makes a move on Daenarys with rather awkward results, then Ser Davos attempts to go to the castle and gets arrested after being told by several parties that such would happen.
The previous books make these characters seem rather logical and cautious, so from them to be so rash comes as a shock to me at this point.

There will be times

where people make stupid decisions based on faulty logic and reasoning. Won't be the first and won't be the last.

Another new trailer, but nothing really noteworthy in it

Tywin riding into Harrenhal looks pretty badass

Nothing new in terms of plot, but damned if that Florence+the Machine music didn't fit perfectly. Looks like they spent more money this time around.

^ Is that trick photography to make Grey Wind look bigger, or just the way the camera is angled?

He's supposed to be that big, so I imagine they are doing some kind of trick photography/forced perspective thing.

Yeah, I wonder how they're going to handle the dire wolves because they're supposed to be really big.

Forced perspective and other photography tricks, aren't exactly practical techniques that can be employed frequently. And the CGI could potentially cost a fortune.

I wonder if they won't keep the wolves in the background and use them sparingly.

Re: Game of Thrones (HBO) Season 2: Casting, News

^ I think forced perspective might be mandatory for season three where, if they follow the books, they find
Spoiler:
the giants and their mammoth steeds.

I read somewhere that a lot of the dire wolf scenes will be CGI this season.

Re: Game of Thrones (HBO) Season 2: Casting, News

^ I guess they can do that at this point. What I have seen so far in the previews indicates that they really spared no expense in making this season look as grand as possible.

Good news, everyone! According to the Season 1 commentary, Roz the Whore will not only be back for Season 2, but she'll be a "major character".

I still don't get that rename. Asha/Arya is a problem but Jorah/Jory/Joffrey and Tywin/Tyrion is not?

It's not Asha/Arya that's the problem. It's Asha/Osha.

Except in the Bakshi animated version where he was called "Aruman" about half of the time, and "Saruman" the other half.

EW had an article about the upcoming season. They plan to split the third book into two seasons. A wise approach IMO, as not only is it huge in length, but they need to spread out the seasons to give Martin enough time to finish the stories! Of course given his recent pace there's a good chance they could try making each chapter in his books an ep. to itself and him still not be finished. ;)

Presumably, Martin won't take as long to write the next two books as he did A Feast for Crows and A Dance with Dragons.

Those two books presented a lot of logistical problems for him. He had originally planned to jump ahead several years in time between books three and four, but scrapped those plans and started over. He also had to split the fourth book into two books (the first half ended up being AFFC), and had trouble writing ADWD because he had to get certain characters in certain places and couldn't get that done.

Now that he has all of this worked out, we can hope that he'll be able to write the final two books with less difficulty.

Re: Game of Thrones (HBO) Season 2: Casting, News

If they get to books four and five, I'm curious if HBO will try to combine them at once and split them over a season or two as well, since AFFC doesn't have as many of the familiar characters from the series.
Also, they apparently spent a bit more money on this season to film the battle sequence for Kings Landing. Nice to know they decided not to skimp.

Also I believe they will film back to back to keep the kids from aging too much

Season 1: book 1
Season 2: book 2
Season 3: bits from book 2, book 3
Season 4: book 3, bits from book 4
Season 5: book 4 and book 5 (13+ episodes)
Season 6: book 6 (13+ episodes)
Season 7: book 7 (13+ episodes)

7 seasons would be about right

I'm almost certain that they will. Books four and five more or less take place simultaneously, but in different regions of the ASOIAF world. That would make it awkward for a television series.

Also a bit curious if they'll start to condense the storyline down a bit, and not bring in all of the characters and plot elements from the books. There are so many characters with subplots in the books that it could really bog down a television series if they all need to be serviced.
