Pretty much, word for word the same reaction as my wife. It was kind of inappropriate coming from her though.

Yep, I thought the same thing, they got a fairly big name actor to play Ned knowing that they only needed him for the first season. I thought this was coming a few episodes ago, when they kept advertising "the episode everyone will be talking about" even though it would have been too soon.

Yeah, that seemed like a way to save money by not showing the battle. I was hoping this episode would show some battle scenes.

I didn't read the books, so this came as a total shock to me. I woke my daughter up by me screaming, "No fucking way!".

Heartbreaking last few minutes. I've read the first book but still wasn't quite prepared for seeing that happen on screen.

I'm in awe. I seriously can't wait to begin reading next week. Bittersweet because I know I'll tear through all five books and quickly have nothing.

I wonder if HBO gave any thought to having this episode air on Father's Day next week instead. Maybe they should have skipped Memorial Day for it

The regulars, yeah, but the one asshole that joined and popped in one of the earlier threads just to spoil shit ruined this part for me. I saw his post before the mods killed it. Then again, I suppose he could've been a regular. It was around the time when people were getting pissed off that they had to put spoiler tags on a lot of stuff, so I suppose one of those people could've just been having a childish tantrum.

Regardless, it was still a shock when it happened, and was really well done. I can't wait to see Joffrey pay for that. I'm assuming he does... And no, I don't want to know.

The irony of the whole thing was if Ned doesn't confess hes probably still alive. Cant wait to see Tywin's face when he realizes Rob completely outmaneuvered him.

Yeah, that kind of thing is one of the dangers of reading any content or discussion about an existing series on the internet if you don't want to be spoiled. I wouldn't be anywhere near these threads or any related sites if I wasn't caught up, personally.

I warned non-readers in these threads early on against visiting sites like WinterIsComing.net for info, trailers, whatever the case may be. Great site, but just as an example, there's a frequent commenter there whose username is Lord Ned's Head. It's always a risk, and there are still lots of things about this series that could be spoiled, for next week's episode and beyond.

Re: Game of Thrones -- "Baelor" -- 6/12/11

I haven't read the books, nor any spoilers, and found Ned's death to be pretty well telegraphed. It was handled well, but the writing was on the wall the past few eps. Frankly, I'm more surprised by other's shock and awe at said event. Sean Bean's casting for one intimated such an occurrence. I didn't see him committing to a series long-term.

As always, I find the apparent explosion of outrage common on social networking outlets I couldn't care less about to be amusing, and ponderous.

She's a great little actress with such an expressive face. Loved it when Arya was trying to draw Needle as she fought her way through the crowd.

Good thing the DVDTalk filter doesn't work on vid clips; otherwise, Larry rant (as his friend would say) woulda been bleeped every 5 seconds due to his using the Word That Shall Not Be Spoken about 50 times.

They really went for broke this episode...first, the killing of the horse, then the ending shocker.

Sad to think that some people would actually tune out because of the story's willingness to go places that most series studiously avoid, but the same boldness may attract even more viewers/readers for the same reason.

6 hours now and no "Game Over, Ned!" mashup images? Internet, you've disappointed me.

I said in the casting threads that Aryia would be near impossible. They pulled it off.

Already getting sad that this is done next week. I envy you guys that can hop into the books now for the first time.

I had the same reaction as most, including being a little let down by Tyrion's portrayal in this one.

Yep, that was pretty cool. Too bad we didn't see Jaimie getting captured.

I think the lesson here is that NEVER tell Jon Snow "We'll talk when I get back"
