IMO Harper's Island picked up big time towards the end of the run. Agreed that it could have been shorter but at least it ended on a high note.

I feel the Killing may do the same. There's a lot left to uncover so things may move at a very fast pace from here till the end. I hope so because the Rosie Larsen case is very interesting.... it's just too bad that there is far too much filler.

Good episode, but like everyone else, I think it was oddly/poorly timed. It would have been better to get this episode a little earlier, or spread out over the course of a few episodes.

Holder is definitely the best character on this show. He's extremely well-written and well-acted and has a lot of depth. If this show gets another season, I hope Linden leaves and Holder becomes the lead. He's sympathetic and I feel like he's someone we can actually root for, since he's getting his life together and trying to make amends. And he's got a great sense of humor.

It was nice to see some background on Linden and for her to actually show some emotion, but the character is pretty unlikable. I can't imagine that her son isn't the crack baby or whatever she was talking about. Add to that Reggie is a social worker it just seems to make sense. I sort of wondered this episode as well as earlier when he was sending out the pictures if Jack wasn't the murderer; he seems pretty screwed up, but I doubt they'll go in that direction.

Agree with everything here. Holder is the only likable character on this show. That's it. He's well written, strong backstory with just enough mystery to it and he comes off as a genuinely good guy. I'd be very happy if this season ends with Linden and Jack leaving Seattle to reunite with her fiance and then Holder being the main cop next season.

It's pretty obvious the son is the crack baby being that he went to visit his father and they left it very open to what that meant. Could easily be that he went to jail to visit him.

I like Linden.

Harper's Island at least started to get good around episode 6 or 7.

I think it'd be a better show if I could burn through it at my own pace. But waiting week to week, combined with slower episodes...ugh.

I would watch a cop/procedural show with Holder. Call CBS?

So, it seems the show hasn't been renewed yet. Is that normal for AMC? Do they have a pattern that they usually renew new shows after the season ends, before? Or it's just a mix?

I don't mind the Holder character, but don't see what the great attraction is to him.

I'm left wondering how the home-boy even made it out of the police academy, let alone becoming a detective, and then a homicide detective, esp after having a drug addiction while on the job.

Isn't this a fairly normal occurrence for undercover cops who have to end up shooting up to maintain their cover? I'd think it would be, and Linden seemed to imply as much.

Yeah I don't think the police throw you under the bus if you get hooked while undercover. They just help you through it and send you to a different department. Or at least that's what they do on TV. I've seen similar things a few times before.

I asked one of the producers in Twitter, @mbondesen, and he confirmed that they haven't been renewed yet. Still waiting.

Like others have said, decent episode with good characterization, but bad timing in the overall plot of the show.

This late in the season, I just want more of the case solved, not Linden and Holder driving around looking for her stupid kid.

That's because they had killed off at least half of the cast by then. They had to knuckle down with some storytelling.

I don't think she implied it, but rather she came out and said it, as that was her assumption that the problem was from his undercover work. Holder said that wasn't the case though.

But, nevertheless your point is right. As far as substance abuse, it doesn't really matter though, as the police, like a lot of other employers, are prohibited from "throwing an employee under the bus" for substance abuse problems as long as the employee is seeking help to fix it (and hasn't caused some major accident or problem on the job). This isn't the case though before the employee is hired ... or is going through the police academy.

I was just more wondering how the heck home-boy Holder even made it through the police academy. I think his backstory would be more interesting than Linden's.

Have we ever found out why the mob boss was so disgusted when he saw the Aunt at the wake?

But he did say the drug use started while he was undercover. It's just that he didn't blame being undercover as his reason for getting hooked. Instead he blamed himself.

Wsa that the mob boss or the rich kid's (the one who was hooking up with Rosie) dad?

Either way, that has stuck with me too. She was eager to say hi and he gave her such a look of disgust.

I just don't remember. Even though this show is insanely insulting to the viewers, that is the only scene so far in the series that has not been explained. I have to believe it was on purpose.

Pretty sure it was the rich kid's dad. That's who I thought it was at the time anyway.

Someone give an Emmy to Joel Kinnaman.

His portrayal of Holder is fucking genius.....

This show has been great about dropping little clues here and there. Can't wait for whatever comes next.

This.
