Napoleon Dynamite - the animated series, 2012 on FOX
I just noticed that the first look trailer has been released. I am a fan of the movie, but admit that people latched on to it way too much and it got old very, very fast. I think it's cool how they got the entire cast to provide the voices for this, so who knows, maybe it'll work. I'm certainly not 100% convinced of that though. The trailer isn't that great, but whatever. Besides, at least it isn't another FOX animation show by MacFarlane. I'm a fan of his shows but come on now. And yes, this is years way too late, and is just plain odd that they are even attempting it now. Anyway, here is the trailer...

EDIT:
Ok, and then I see this one coming to FOX as well...

Perhaps this one exists to make the Napoleon Dynamite show look better? They have gone animation crazy, which isn't really a bad thing, at least it is keeping TV animation alive I guess.

Ugh, just realized this is mentioned in another thread. Delete if it doesn't warrant a thread I guess.

Allen Gregory reminds me of Mission Hill for some reason.

I liked the movie but I'm not sure if that's the kind of thing that's going to stay funny week after week. If the writing is good who knows, but I'm not dying to see this.

Don't take this like I'm really comparing the two shows, but the ND trailer reminds me a great deal of King of the Hill, and I loved that show and hated to see it die.

Oh man that Allen Gregory show won't last 1 episode!!
Who in the world is going to relate to an obnoxious kid, with 2 dads, who sips pinot grigio and eats sushi out of a Louis Vuitton lunch box?? What a suck fest

Yeah, Allen Gregory looks terrible. I hope we're not supposed to be rooting for that kid. Him arbitrarily falling for that hideous woman is beyond stupid.

Nothing really, but it's not everyday that you get the entire main cast to return to voice an animated series from a movie. Or even one cast member for that matter.

I get the feeling this'll be a G rated (like the movie) piece of crap like the Bob and Doug series from a few years back.
Fox should have just picked up the new more risque Futurama and just bleeped it.

It was better than Allen Gregory. Not great, but certainly better than that crap.
I think the problem with the show is that they decided to play to the fact that it's a cartoon a bit too much. I remember watching the movie back in 2005 and thinking to myself that it could have been made into a TV show without much effort.
But this show deviates from the movie in all the wrong ways. The whole charm of the film was that it was so low-fi and small. The first two episodes of the series have a huge underground fight club and one filled with water-ski stunts. They didn't even make this a continuation to the movie, as Kip isn't married and is back to meeting women online.
I think if they had molded the show a little more on King Of The Hill, it may have worked better. Then again I loved the Clerks animated series which took a complete 180 from the film, and fully embraced the idea of being a cartoon. I guess it just depends on how well you do it.
I do think they waited too long to do this, which was the same problem Clerks had. Well that and ABC had no idea what to do with Clerks in the first place.

I definitely got a Clerks Animated Series vibe as well -- same actors for the voices set in a cartoonish reality.

I liked the simple character stuff, but the plotlines were too big forced (and too big). I agree with TheKing that King of the Hill should have been the model here, and I felt a little of that show here in the simpler scenes. But yeah, the over the top stuff just didn't work very well.

Now I'm regretting not recording this, simply because the football game ran late so I only got half of The Simpsons.

I thought the episodes were pretty fun, and there's definitely some potential gold under the surface. Enjoyed hearing the same voice actors, but Kip's tone just doesn't match the "bigger" plots of the animated series. His voice sounds weak and drowned-out, enough so that he's pretty tough to understand at times.
