re: The Voice (NBC) Singing Competition -- Series Discussion Thread

Current iTunes Top 100 singles:

#1 Dia Frampton "Inventing Shadows"
#2 Javier Colon "Stitch By Stitch"
#11 Adam & Javier "Man in the Mirror"
#13 Vicci Martinez "Afraid to Sleep"
#14 Blake & Dia "I Won't Back Down"
#17 Christina & Beverly "Beautiful"
#29 Beverly McClellan "Lovesick"
#33 Dia Frampton "Losing My Religion" (from previous weeks)
#35 Cee-Lo & Vicci "Love is a Battlefield"
#42 Dia Frampton "Heartless" (from previous weeks)
#47 Javier Colon "Fix You" (from previous weeks)
#71 Vicci Martinez "Dog Days Are Over" (from previous weeks)
#74 Javier Colon "Time After Time" (from previous weeks)
#90 Javier Colon "Angel" (from previous weeks)

I know iTunes sales don't count at this point, but it's still an interesting gauge.

^They do still count. But only the downloads of the original songs. Downloads of the duets don't count towards the final vote.

Kinda conflicted so didn't vote. Thought Beverly & Vicci had best duets but liked Javier's and Dia's 'originals' better.

Was pulling for Dia because I like her style but actually thought she was pretty bland last night (the Blues Brothers look with ZZ Top choreography was sort of silly...seemed totally Blake to me...although Dia looked beautiful, as usual. The girl could make a feed sack look glamorous).

Really liked the Beverly/Christina duet & liked most of the "Lovesick" song, although I thought Bev got a little lost when she sat down at the piano & never quite recovered.

Loved the fun performance of Love Is a Battlefield, but on the original song, Vicci's histrionics & leaping about seemed totally out of sync with the song, which seemed more of a ballad.

Javier seemed to open the door for the others with the original (thought the studio version they played sounded great) & didn't care much for the duet, but still was a solid if not stellar outing.

All four were better than AI's finalists this year IMHO.

Prediction: Javier

just judging by iTunes, seems like it'll be a tossup between Dia and Javier

Seems the show's producers were grooming Javier since the beginning, so he's my pick

but I loves me some Dia

I came away from this so impressed with Vicci, both her performances and poise. I really like her and I hope she is successful b/c I'd love to hear more from her.

Dia has led itunes since Heartless. I think Heartless is still on that top 50 on itunes. The reason I think Javier is going to win is because even though Dia got a lot of itunes downloads, Xenia was relatively close to her in the vote percentage wise last week. Xenia didn't have as high of an itunes presence. Granted, we don't know the raw numbers, but I think Javier has been the leader of the votes since probably the beginning.

Very happy with the results. Loved the show. Wonder if they will have different coaches next year?

yah javier over dia, no surprise

javier's just so much more "general public friendly" than dia, imo

but dia is still probably going to win with this too, some record company will sign her fairly quickly I would imagine

If I was Dia, I'd say F that and think if a 14 year old Rebecca Black can make millions doing it herself I can too.

Well, she's certainly gotten the exposure now that she didn't have with Meg & Dia (the band she was in with her sister). They have released three CDs/EPs so far, I think, and have something of a cult following. The trick is whether this will launch Dia into a solo career. If so, I wonder if she'll keep some of her old bandmates around (including her sister, who is a mean guitarist).

Failing that, she could always have a modeling career on the side. What a naturally photogenic face/body. Miranda Lambert looked sort of low-rent beside her.

Speaking of low-rent, it seems that it's about time that Stevie Nicks hung it up on live performances. Maybe they can sweeten her voice in the studio, but that sounded pretty bad (and I'm making allowances for her age). Hard living will catch up to you eventually.

All 4 are signed on for season 2.

It's the first successful thing Aguilera has been attached to in years, she's probably got a death grip on this thing.

Expect the lobbying by coaches to be even more over the top next year if more than one of them turns for a singer. All four turned around for Javier so to a certain extent the other 3 probably feel like they would have one if he'd chosen them, too.

We'll never know but it is fun to speculate as to whether it mattered which coaches they ended up with or if that aspect is less relevant.

I think it would matter. While I don't think those went out in earlier rounds from other coaches had a chance to win it, I do think that the song selections made by the coaches tanked their chances of getting on to another round. I don't know how likely it would have been, but had Javier been given something terrible that didn't suit him at all it's plausible he could have been knocked out.

I think this show started out great, then fizzled. And it seemed like they rushed to the ending, so we didn't get enough time with the singers or time to see if they grew with "coaching". Seemed like the idea was "people are paying attention, quick, let's get this over with while they still are watching!"

And like Scorcho, I loves me some Dia.

For anybody that missed Christina's incident with her b**bs last night. Mildly NSFW, although it was on TV. Still can't believe she did that. I'd think you'd have to be thinking there is at least one camera on you at all times.

I agree, and its especially odd given that there isn't shit else on TV during summer. What were they rushing for? Were they really chomping at the bit to get more fucking America's Got Talent reruns on Tuesday night TV?

The only thing I can think of is that they didn't know if this would be a dud or a hit so they limited their costs by going 8-4-1 with eliminations, thus reducing the show count. I'd be surprised if they did 8-4-1 next year. They'll probably eschew it for something like 8-6-4-3-2-1.

Also, I'm not entirely convinced that Christina isn't just Snooki with bleached hair at this point. Have we ever seen them in the same room at the same time?

Agreed on all points.

It's funny, I was poised to make a "Of course Dia looks better than Miranda, she's like 10-12 years younger"... then I saw Miranda's age. 28. Yikes. That's not a good looking 28.

I wonder what she was doing... It didn't look like she was fixing her dress. Maybe she just had to feel herself up after Javier's performance?
