This is Adam's weakest team going into the Lives that I can remember.
I think Christina has the best team and the front runner. |
Re: The Voice (NBC) -- Season 10 Thread -- Premieres 2/29/16
I saw that Alisan Porter (who played Curley Sue years ago) won The Voice. 1st time Team Christina won the show in 10 seasons.
She was a pretty good singer from what I saw of her. Not sure if she will have any kind of recording career afterwards since this show hasn't produced any stars. I kind of hit a rut with this show several weeks ago. It was tough keeping up with 3+ hours every week. Since I know who won, probably won't try watching the rest. I'm 50/50 on returning for the Fall season. I know that Pharrell is leaving along with Christina (for 1 season) and they're bringing in Miley Cyrus and Alicia Keys as their replacements. I think I need a 1 year break from this show. |

Living in Ann Arbor, I got so sick of hearing about Laith al-Saadi. The posts were clogging up my FB newsfeed.

I lost interest after the lives began. I'll probably watch the auditions next year since that is the best part of the show, but that's it.

But once they get to the lives they've zapped all the drama out of the show. The contestants never get curveballs. They always get songs that are at least intended to play to their strengths, and they get a high class production for every performance. It's all so perfect and polished that nobody gets a chance to truly fall on their face and have a 'bad week' like they used to on Idol. there's zero drama to the live performance shows. And even if a singer has a less-than-great showing, the judges are *never* critical and mindlessly gush over every contestant. Because there's no real quality variance to the performances, the 'pecking order' generally stays the same as everyone has already picked out their horse before the lives even start. It's usually clear early on who the favorites are... especially if you check out the iTunes charts. There may be some shuffling among the lower ranks of competitors, but the closest this show comes to a 'shocking elimination' is when the girl you thought would make it to 7th place gets eliminated slightly earlier in 12th place. |

Re: The Voice (NBC) -- Season 10 Thread -- Premieres 2/29/16
The ratings always drop as they progress to each new round. I agree that predictability is definitely a problem, and I think it's become more pronounced as the show has gone on and certain coaches' strategy becomes more easily guessed. Especially with Blake and Adam, who I also feel have lost the freshness of much of their banter.
And we now have the changes to the Top 12, where only 1 person leaves each week for awhile, and that can often be predicted. So it seems very static to me, until they suddenly do the dramatic cuts, which get us to 4, which really seems too many to me. I understand why they've made these changes for the ratings, but my takeaway is that almost "nothing" happens, until suddenly too much does. The increased emphasis on iTunes seems more commercial, though it makes sense. But what really frustrates me is the twitter Save, which is well over by the time anyone not watching the East Coast feed sees the episode. That being said, I managed to hang on longer than I have for the last couple of Seasons, having watched all but the final Tuesday results show. I have no attachment to the new judges, but it's possible that they might shake things up. |
Re: The Voice (NBC) -- Season 10 Thread -- Premieres 2/29/16
I watching singing competition shows for the singing. I have no desire to see Frank Sinatra sing Run DMC so he can fall on his face. I'm completely OK with watching Frank Sinatra sing Frank Sinatra. I find manufactured drama irritating. That said, it obviously sells. America loved watching Simon find new and creative ways to rip people apart. So much so that it was considered bad form if any of the contestants actually stood up for themselves against his rants.
I just can't imagine wanting to sit through 2 hours of TV hoping contestants stumble and have bad performances so they can be ripped apart. My perfect show would be if I enjoyed every single performance. Nor do I see the benefit of seeing Scotty McCreery take on Opera. I don't need curveballs. I will agree, however, that not every performance can be the best thing ever, and if you listen to the judges, that's pretty much the feedback they constantly give. That's irritating. Christina Grimmie, from season six, was shot after a performance tonight and is in critical condition-eek-
Florida authorities say "The Voice" star Christina Grimmie is in critical condition after being shot at a concert venue in Orlando by a suspect who fatally shot himself after being tackled by the singer-songwriter's brother. Orlando Police Department officials said during a news conference that Grimmie was shot about 10:45 p.m. Friday at The Plaza Live, where she had performed earlier. They say the suspect "walked up and shot" Grimmie after the performance, while merchandise was being sold and autographs were being given. Grimmie's brother tackled the shooter, who shot himself. Police say the unidentified suspect had two guns, but no motive has been established. No further information was immediately available. An investigation is ongoing. Grimmie, a 22-year-old New Jersey native, finished third during season six of NBC's "The Voice." |

Her publicist announced she has passed away
ABC, E!, and CNN are all confirming |
Re: The Voice (NBC) -- Season 10 Thread -- Premieres 2/29/16
Ugh, I'm away on vacation and just saw the news. Awful and tragic. She was really good in her season. Hope the piece of shit that murdered her is burning in hell. :(

Re: The Voice (NBC) -- Season 10 Thread -- Premieres 2/29/16
Same here. I'm not familiar with her (never saw The Voice), but was extremely disturbed reading about what happened. What a painfully senseless act. I feel so bad for her brother who had to witness the whole thing.

Re: The Voice (NBC) -- Season 10 Thread -- Premieres 2/29/16
Season 11 filming is probably going to happen in another month or so. It's going to be weird for them to concentrate, especially Adam since he was her coach.
I'm sure the show will do some kind of tribute to her when it begins in September. |
Re: The Voice (NBC) -- Season 10 Thread -- Premieres 2/29/16
Just awful. I was a fan of hers even before she was on the show after seeing some of her Youtube covers. Such a beautiful and talented girl who had so many years ahead of her.

The vocalists compete to be selected by one of the coaches and fight for a chance to win the title of being named "The Voice." Carson Daly ("TODAY Show") hosts. TV-PG Alicia Keys and Miley Cyrus are the new coaches for this cycle. As usual expect 3-5 hours of content per week until December. Yes, I know this is a horrendously difficult show for the few of you who still watch to keep up with and most here burn out before the season ends. |
Re: The Voice (NBC) -- Season 11 Thread -- Premieres 9/19/16
Miley is annoying... probably due to her voice. LOL

Re: The Voice (NBC) -- Season 11 Thread -- Premieres 9/19/16
So now they're recycling contestants from American Idol? I don't remember how far Sundance Head got, but far enough that I remember him. Funny how his piece didn't mention that little tidbit.

Re: The Voice (NBC) -- Season 11 Thread -- Premieres 9/19/16
They've had people from AI and Rockstar INXS on before.

Re: The Voice (NBC) -- Season 11 Thread -- Premieres 9/19/16
No one really stood out from night one.
Not a fan of crooners and I wasn't a fan of the Sinatra wanna be who got picked by Adam. He's going to get eaten up when he has to sing some contemporary songs. Who does he think he's appealing to 65 year old ITunes users? ;) Derek Harper's (former NBA player) daughter wasn't too bad, but hardly a wow performance. I thought Alicia and Miley were fine as the new additions. Does Miley smoke? She has sort of a smoker's voice when she speaks. |
Re: The Voice (NBC) -- Season 11 Thread -- Premieres 9/19/16
Got caught up with the rest of week 1 and last night's episode.
Man, this girl impressed the hell out of me....We McDonald. Although she has the personality of a mouse. I also liked this girl Lauren Diaz as well. No shock that she would end up with Alicia Keys. They seemed like a match made in heaven. Her video has gotten 5M views!! So far, Alicia and Miley have fit in fine with Blake and Adam. |
Re: The Voice (NBC) -- Season 11 Thread -- Premieres 9/19/16
Final 4 after tomorrow
Sundance and Billie are locks, I'll say We and Brendan get the other two. Sundance is probably the favorite since he will have the full support of Blake's fans |
Re: The Voice (NBC) -- Season 11 Thread -- Premieres 9/19/16
Did a massive binge watch of the last 5-6 episodes over the last few days.
My favorites are Billy and We. Billy has an edge over We because of his experience as a child singer. But, We is very unique. However, Sundance had a pretty amazing performance last night. I think he has a lot of momentum going into the final few episodes. I'm still going to watch the show, but it's pretty evident that there's virtually no interest left in it in this forum aside from a very small few. This will probably be the last Voice thread in this forum. I know there's been discussion on how this show fails to produce any stars. However, it seems like Jordan Smith is doing really well. I saw on last week's show that he's sold 7M singles and he's currently on tour with Amy Grant and Michael W. Smith. A co-worker of mine saw the concert and thought he was fantastic. Seems like he's found his audience in the inspirational pop music genre. Plus he released a Holiday album produced by David Foster. Back in March, he reportedly broke sales records for The Voice contestants. http://people.com/tv/jordan-smith-be...voice-history/ |
Re: The Voice (NBC) -- Season 11 Thread -- Premieres 9/19/16
Well, it's Billy, Sundance, We and Josh for the final 4.
I think Sundance is the overwhelming favorite at this point. Was surprised that Ali didn't make it. She wasn't my favorite, but I thought she had a pretty good last performance. But after I saw the instant results, she was significantly behind. |
Re: The Voice (NBC) -- Season 11 Thread -- Premieres 9/19/16
Was hoping for Christian, but a solid final 4.
